“Yeah, just bad luck!” Victoria replied.
“Why do you say that? I think Alexander’s people are great!”
“...” Evie grinned, touched her nose, and murmured, “Sometimes I miss things. Besides, they just broke up. He didn’t do anything wrong to her. Don’t always call him a scumbag!”
“Breaking up with me without being responsible isn’t a scumbag?”
“Sis, what’s wrong with you?” Evie asked carefully.
“What’s wrong? If you fall in love, you have to be responsible! Haven’t you heard? If you’re not dating for marriage, you’re just messing around! He’s messing around, so he’s a scumbag!”
Evie was stunned. What was her sister talking about?
“Sis, you’ve broken up. Don’t overthink it. There are plenty of good men out there. Don’t worry!” Victoria said.
“What’s there to worry about? I’m smart and happy on my own!” Evie replied.
“Don’t let one bad experience ruin everything. Take it easy and wait for new love. Maybe your prince charming is waiting at the next corner!” Evie said with a smile.
“When did you become so poetic?” Victoria glanced at her and asked.
“I’ve always been!” Evie replied.
Victoria didn’t say anything more. When the car entered the city, it was rush hour, and they got stuck in traffic.
Anyway, they weren’t in a hurry. They just moved slowly.
“How do you know Alexander’s cousin?” Victoria asked.
“I met her at a friend’s party. She’s really nice!” Evie replied.
“Alexander said her childhood boyfriend isn’t your husband?” Victoria looked at Evie and asked.
Evie was embarrassed and didn’t know how to answer.
“I knew it couldn’t be a coincidence.” Victoria saw it all and responded with disdain.
“Sis, it’s nothing. They used to be together, then broke up. Now they don’t contact each other!” Evie said.
“Did Alexander tell you they don’t contact each other, or did you guess?”
“I didn’t guess. They really don’t contact each other!” Evie said.
“Didn’t you hear what Alexander said? His aunt said that woman came back for her boyfriend!”
“I know. Part of the reason Grace came back was for Alexander, but after she found out he was married, she let go.”
“How do you know she let go? Maybe they’re hiding it from you!”
“Sis, you don’t know Alexander, and you don’t understand Grace. That’s why you think that way. They really don’t matter. If there was something, I wouldn’t be so relaxed, and Alexander wouldn’t have married me, right?” Evie said.
“That’s true. Alexander isn’t a man who can’t find a wife. He doesn’t need to settle!” Victoria murmured.
“Sis, you can rest assured. Alexander isn’t the type to be unfaithful. We’re very happy together now. Besides, everyone has a past. You can’t change it even if you don’t like it. If you keep struggling with the past, you won’t be able to live!” Evie replied calmly.
“You’re right. As long as Alexander is determined and treats you wholeheartedly, all other problems aren’t problems!” Victoria nodded.
Evie didn’t say anything more.
After more than an hour of traffic jam, the car finally started moving.
“Hungry? There’s a restaurant ahead. Let’s eat, then I’ll take you back!” Victoria said.
“Okay!” Evie replied. She wasn’t in a hurry either.
So she called Lily and said she wouldn’t be back for dinner, so she didn’t need to cook.
Then she called Alexander to say she’d be back late, but no one answered.
Maybe he was in a meeting.
Evie thought about it and sent a text message instead.
After sending the message, Evie put away her phone and waited to have dinner with her sister.
Victoria turned right at the intersection ahead, then turned into a small road. She found a parking spot, stopped the car, and said.
“The only bad thing here is that parking is hard to find. But I’m lucky today. I got a spot right away, so we don’t have to walk far!”
Evie replied.
She followed her sister forward. After a few steps, she suddenly stopped.
Victoria walked for a while, only to realize Evie hadn’t kept up. She turned to look at her and asked.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing!” Evie came back to her senses and looked away.
The car just now belonged to Alexander. He only drove that car when he was driving himself. Usually, the driver picked him up in another car. But why was this car parked here right now?
Evie was a little puzzled.
She followed Victoria into the private restaurant in the deep alley. They entered an elegant private room, and Victoria started ordering.
Then she asked Evie what she wanted. Evie said she wasn’t familiar with the place, so her sister should order.
So Victoria ordered two more dishes and asked the waiter if pregnant women could eat them.
Evie was embarrassed.
“Sis, don’t keep mentioning that I’m pregnant!”
“It’s okay to be careful. Besides, the waiter doesn’t know who I’m talking about. They might think I’m pregnant!” Victoria replied.
Evie couldn’t help but laugh.
Ever since she found out she was pregnant, her sister had been more cautious with her every time. She had the illusion that her sister was the one who was pregnant, not her.
The mushroom soup was served first. Victoria gave her a bowl and told her to drink it first to line her stomach.
“The mushroom soup here is really good. I order it every time I come!”
“Hmm!” Evie nodded. She took two sips, looked up, and said, “It’s really good!”
“I don’t know how to make it. Otherwise, we could teach Mom and have it often when we go back.”
“This is their signature soup. If you learn it, they won’t be able to do business!” Evie said with a smile.
“Yeah, so I can only come here to eat when I’m free!”
The two of them ate and chatted.
At that moment, Evie’s phone rang. It was Alexander.
“Alexander—” Evie answered excitedly.
“Back?” Alexander asked on the other end.
“No, I’ve only had half my meal. Are you off work?”
“Not yet!” Alexander said.
“Have you had dinner yet? Don’t just work and forget to eat again.” Evie reminded him.
“I’ve eaten!” Alexander replied.
“Then I won’t disturb your work. I’ll go back after dinner. Don’t worry about me!” Evie said with a smile.
“Okay, take care of yourself!”
“I know. Bye!” Evie finished, hung up, and put away her phone.
