Chapter 335

Alexander didn’t ask why Evelyn was in a bad mood. He just chatted with her while drinking fruit tea, guiding her slowly.

Evelyn leaned lazily against him, answering every word. After a while, she shifted the topic.

“Alexander, if you could go back to a certain point in the past and start over, when would you choose?”

“That’s impossible.” He smiled, refusing to entertain such a pointless question.

“I’m just imagining a future where technology is advanced enough to turn back time.” Evelyn insisted.

He thought for a moment. “If I had to pick, I’d go back to the day before my brother’s accident. I’d do everything to stop it.”

Evelyn turned her head to look at him. She hadn’t expected that answer.

But it made sense. Alexander and Ethan had a close bond. He clearly had deep feelings for his older brother.

If he had a choice, of course he’d want to prevent his brother’s early death. But then she couldn’t help thinking further.

After that, wasn’t that the time Grace broke up with him?

If he could go back to before that, his brother wouldn’t have died. He wouldn’t have had to return to take over the family business. Grace wouldn’t have left him. They might have gotten married. Everything would have been perfect.

“What are you thinking about?” Alexander looked down at her and asked.

Evelyn snapped back to reality. She lifted her eyes to meet his, then asked slowly.

“Alexander, if Grace regretted her decision, and if we weren’t married yet, would you want to start over with her?”

He looked directly at her and answered calmly.

“No. It has nothing to do with whether we’re married or not. Some things are in the past. Even if you regret them, you can only let them go.”

“But if you still have feelings for her, why can’t you try to forgive her and start over? Maybe she had her reasons back then?” Evelyn sat up straight, looking at him seriously.

“Is this why you’re in a bad mood today? Because you’re struggling with this?” Alexander frowned.

“No!” She replied awkwardly, refusing to admit it.

“I can’t speak for others or their choices. I can only say that the situation you’re imagining doesn’t apply to me. No matter what difficulties there were at the beginning, everyone has to take responsibility for their own decisions. I can’t just say I regret it and start over.”

Evelyn lowered her head and stayed silent.

“Don’t worry about such meaningless things anymore, okay?” Alexander continued.

“Alexander, Grace is going back. Did you know?” Evelyn said quietly.

“What do you mean?” He asked lightly.

“She might have come back because of you. Later, she found out you were married. Now she’s not in good health, so she decided to return.”

“She told you that?”

“She told me she was going back. She didn’t say it was for you, but I could tell.”

“Silly girl. You always overthink things.” Alexander rubbed her head and smiled.

“Alexander, Grace is really pitiful.”

“So you’re planning to give me away?”

“No. I know it’s pointless to say this now. But I think lovers should be together. So I’m really conflicted.” Evelyn sighed.

“Are you willing to give me away?” He pressed.

“I’m not willing. But if you still have feelings for her, I might consider it.”

“Evelyn, in your heart, am I that replaceable? At the beginning of our marriage, you planned to divorce me. Have you never changed that idea?” He looked straight at her.

“Of course not. Back then, I thought you wanted a divorce too, and I was…” She panicked, not knowing how to explain, stammering.

“What was back then?” He asked.

“Back then, I didn’t like you. I thought you were gay. So I assumed you just needed a marriage of convenience.” She blurted out.

“And now?”

“Now, of course, I don’t think that. But today, when I saw Grace, she really looked pitiful.” Evelyn pouted.

“What does her being pitiful have to do with you? There are so many pitiful people in the world. Can you care for all of them? Evelyn, if I find out you’re still thinking this way, I’ll be really angry.” He stared at her.

“How angry will you get?” She asked hesitantly, watching him carefully.

“What do you think?” He didn’t answer, his fingers brushing her cheek.

Evelyn shrank back involuntarily, forcing a stiff smile. “Forget I said anything. Today’s fruit tea is really good!”

With that, she picked up her cup and was about to drink.

Alexander stopped her.

“It’s cold. Get a new cup.”

He poured out her tea, refilled the cup, and handed it to her.

Evelyn held the cup with both hands, sipping the tea, sneaking glances at him. He seemed genuinely angry.

If she provoked him again, would he actually hit her?

Alexander looked up at her. She immediately lowered her head to drink, looking scared.

He couldn’t help but laugh. Sometimes, she was impossible.

But if he didn’t make things clear to her, she would keep getting confused and tangled up.

If she weren’t pregnant, he really wanted to spank her. Let her know that some things didn’t even need to be thought about, let alone agonized over.

Did she really want to give her husband away?

He didn’t know what Grace had said to her today. Knowing Grace, even if she regretted her choice, she would let go and keep her distance now that he was married. She was too proud to bow her head. She wouldn’t allow herself to do something so degrading. But people could change.

No matter what, it was better for Evelyn to have less contact with Grace.

On one hand, Evelyn was pregnant. Keeping a relaxed and happy mood was good for both her and the baby. This kind of worry, suspicion, and contradiction was harmful.

On the other hand, he didn’t want the past to affect his relationship with her. They had no emotional foundation when they got married. The bond they had built was hard-won. He wouldn’t let it be destroyed by such trivial matters.

But today’s events made him realize something. Evelyn’s mood during pregnancy was unstable. She was prone to worry and overthinking. He needed to spend more time with her, to soothe her emotions.

This was the first time Alexander had to spend more time with her.
