Chapter 306

If her mother won't teach her, it'll be as long and smelly as a foot-binding cloth. She still doesn't want to torture herself.

After hanging up, Evie placed the phone back exactly where it was. She propped her chin on the sofa armrest, waiting for breakfast.

She hadn't slept well last night. She felt a bit down this morning.

After breakfast, Evie changed her clothes as usual, ready for work. Business as usual.

When she walked out of the bedroom, the door next door opened too. Alexander came out, saw Evie, and walked over.

"Wait for me. We'll go to work together!"

"I'm going to be late. You haven't had breakfast yet. Go eat first!" Evie replied.

Suddenly, she didn't want to go to work with him.

"Let Lily pack it. I'll take it to the car and eat on the way!" Alexander said.

"Just eat slowly at home. There's no rush to get to work!" Evie muttered.

"I want to go to work with you. Is that reason enough?" Alexander asked with a smile.

Evie had no choice but to give in.

Downstairs, Alexander asked Lily to pack his breakfast. He walked out of Sterling Manor with Evie, carrying a lunchbox.

Evie walked very slowly. As she walked, she hesitated, wondering how to tell Alexander she was pregnant.

"Do you have something to tell me?" Alexander stopped, looking at Evie.

"I didn't say anything!" Evie pouted in response.

Every time she had something on her mind, Alexander could always see right through her. She was an open book to him.

"What can't you tell me?" Alexander pressed.

Evie lowered her head. After a long silence, her voice was as quiet as a mosquito.

"I have it!"

"What?" Alexander couldn't hear clearly. He leaned closer to Evie.

"It's been a while... the baby!" Evie raised her head and said.

Alexander was stunned for a moment. He stared at Evie blankly. The next second, he suddenly lowered his head and kissed her lips.

Evie was embarrassed and pushed him away. They were outside, not in Sterling Manor!

How awkward would it be if someone saw them!

Alexander finally let Evie go and asked in disbelief.

"Is it true?"

"It's fake. I lied to you!" Evie didn't know why, but she suddenly replied angrily.

Then she turned and walked ahead. She didn't want to pay attention to him.

"Evie, don't be difficult!" Alexander grabbed her and said.

Worried he might be too rough and hurt her, he simply changed to wrap his arm around her shoulder.

"I went for a check-up. The doctor said it's not quite two months. Because of my last period, there might be signs of a premature birth!" Evie decided to just get it all out at once.

"Premature birth?" Alexander's face suddenly darkened.

He thought about last night. He had asked Evie to donate blood.

"Evie, I'm sorry. I didn't take good care of you!" Alexander held Evie in his arms and apologized.

Evie didn't speak for a long time. After a while, she burst into uncontrollable tears.

All the emotions she had been suppressing since last night suddenly erupted.

"Baby, it's all my fault. Don't be angry. When we get back, you can hit me to let off steam. Just take care of yourself!" Alexander coaxed.

No matter what Alexander said, Evie just cried even harder.

"Darling, don't cry. The baby won't be happy—"

As soon as Evie heard about the baby, she seemed to snap out of it.

Her tears stopped as if a brake had been slammed on. She wiped the tears from her face, still feeling unsatisfied. She wiped them again on Alexander's shirt. Then, as if nothing had happened, she walked forward.

No one could match her speed at changing her mood!

"Evie, you're not well. You should rest at home these days!" Alexander said.

"No time!" Evie replied without even turning her head.

Alexander rubbed his forehead. He had a headache. His Evie had never been this angry before.

Afraid that insisting too much would only make her more rebellious, Alexander had to follow her lead.

He carefully helped her into the car. He followed her into the back seat. Then he continued to ask Evie.

"What did the doctor say?"

"A lot. One of them is not to provoke me!" Evie said with a straight face.

Alexander had directly hit a wall. He knew he was in the wrong first. For now, he could only let Evie cool down.

When they arrived at the company.

Evie asked Alexander not to go upstairs with her. Then she got out of the car first and entered the elevator.

Alexander watched Evie's back. He thought to himself that she was really angry this time. On top of that, she had a big temper!

It seemed he would have to put in more effort to coax her and calm her down.

Then he thought about Evie being pregnant. A smile immediately appeared on his face. But the next second, he frowned. The doctor had said Evie had signs of a premature birth.

Alexander sat in the back seat with mixed feelings. His headache got worse.

Just then, his phone rang. Alexander wasn't in the mood to answer. But the other party seemed very persistent, calling again and again.

"Owen, you TMD have more trivial shit than cow hair!" Alexander picked up the phone and roared directly.

"Gray, it's me!" Grace O'Sullivan on the other end of the phone replied softly.

"What's the matter?" Alexander asked without any expression.

"Thank you for saving me last night!"

"You're welcome. The person you should thank is my wife! She's pregnant, but she still insisted on donating blood to you!" Alexander said.

Grace was stunned. After a moment, she spoke with guilt.

"I'm sorry. I... I didn't know!"

"Grace, there are some things I think we should already understand. I can't help you anymore. I can only wish you a speedy recovery." Alexander replied.

"I know. Sorry for troubling you yesterday. Also, thank Evie for me. No other business. Take good care of Evie! I wish you happiness!" Grace replied.

"Thank you!" Alexander responded and hung up.

He didn't move from the driver's seat. His head hurt even more.

Phone in hand, Grace lay lifelessly, like a puppet whose soul had been drained.

When Owen Clarke entered the ward, he saw Grace's lifeless appearance.

"Grace, what's wrong?"

"Evie donated blood to me last night, didn't she?" Grace looked at Owen and asked.

"Yes. The blood bank had an emergency last night. Only Evie had type O blood, so—"

"Did you know she was pregnant?"

Owen was stunned. He stared at Grace blankly. After a while, he murmured.

"She didn't want to donate blood at first. So that's why—"

"She didn't want to donate blood, and you forced her?"

"I didn't know she was pregnant! Gray asked her to donate first. Otherwise, how would I have known Evie was type O!" Owen explained. "The situation was very urgent at the time. We had no other choice!"

"I can never repay this life-saving debt!" Grace murmured.
