Chapter 272

“No, isn’t Evie your trainee? You don’t know that!” Chloe muttered.

“Never heard anything special,” Amy said with a smile.

But after Evie’s internship started, she once told Amy to take good care of Evie.

At the time, Amy thought Evie must be connected to Grace.

Later, she never saw any interaction between Grace and Evie. She never heard Evie mention Grace either. So she gradually forgot about it.

That evening, seeing how naturally Evie interacted with Mr. Sterling, she felt confused again.

“Evie seems really familiar with Mr. Sterling,” Ella said then.

“Could Evie be Mrs. Sterling?” Maddie, sitting in the passenger seat, turned to look at the three secretaries in the back and threw out the question.

“No way!” Chloe reacted first, shocked. Then she exchanged glances with the others.

“Don’t look at me. I don’t know. I’ve never heard Evie say anything,” Ella raised her hands in surrender.

“Maddie, how do you know?” Chloe asked directly.

“I don’t know. I’m just guessing,” Maddie replied.

“Oh, come on!” the others complained.

“Actually, it’s not completely baseless. Think about it. Isn’t Mr. Sterling’s wife still very young? Evie fits that. Plus, the back view of the woman in the photo with Mr. Sterling this morning looks a lot like Evie. And the way Evie was with Mr. Sterling tonight… don’t you think the only explanation is the most intimate relationship?” Maddie answered with a smile.

“You might have a point,” Chloe nodded.

“Maddie, when did you become a detective?” Amy said with a laugh.

“Yeah, I could tell Mr. Sterling dotes on Evie. He even peeled shrimp for her. With his personality, that’s impossible unless she’s someone very close. When have you ever seen Mr. Sterling take care of anyone like that?” Ella added.

“Right, right! Isn’t Mr. Sterling the most distant with the opposite sex? And he was so affectionate and clingy tonight!” Chloe echoed.

“Exactly,” Amy said with a smile.

“So how else do you explain what happened tonight?” Chloe asked Amy.

“I don’t know. I can just see that Mr. Sterling really takes good care of Evie,” Amy said neutrally.

“Even though what Maddie said makes a lot of sense, how do we explain it? Evie has never mentioned her relationship with Mr. Sterling. And sometimes when we talked about Mrs. Sterling, we never heard her respond,” Ella interrupted.

“That’s true!”

Everyone discussed it enthusiastically, as if trying to solve the world’s greatest mystery.

By the time they got off the train, they still hadn’t reached a final conclusion. Everyone had their own ideas to weigh.

But one thing was certain: Evie and Mr. Sterling definitely had an unusual relationship.

As for what that unusual relationship meant, everyone had different opinions.

Since they could bring family members, a few colleagues called their spouses and asked them to come join the fun.

So by the time they reached the KTV box, there were more people than at dinner. It was also livelier.

Evie had drunk the hangover tea a while ago. Her head wasn’t as dizzy anymore, and she wasn’t as sleepy. But she couldn’t say she was completely sober.

Now, sitting in the back seat, leaning against Alexander, she chirped like a sparrow. “I can’t drink!”

“Hmm,” Alexander answered.

“When we get back, Alexander is going to be unhappy again.”

“I’m not unhappy,” Alexander replied with a smile.

“Sigh, I don’t know if I did something wrong again,” Evie sighed.

“No, you didn’t,” Alexander continued.

He didn’t mind her drinking a little when he was around.

Especially tonight. He hadn’t objected at all. In fact, he had even encouraged the director, because he had some careful thoughts in mind.

As a result, Evie became more dependent on him. Her reactions became more genuine.

From the restaurant to the KTV, Evie started chirping, then stayed curled up in Alexander’s arms for a while.

Now she was a bit more energetic.

After getting out of the car, she asked Alexander blankly, “Where is this?”

“Grace invited us to sing karaoke,” Alexander explained.

“Oh, I almost forgot,” Evie muttered.

She remembered that at the dinner earlier, Grace had asked her to have a drink with Alexander. She had asked Grace to sing karaoke.

Evie followed Alexander into the KTV. Then she walked toward the box under the waiter’s guidance.

After a few steps, she suddenly thought, how could she be with Alexander?

So she turned to him and said, “You go first!”

Alexander looked at Evie with a mix of tears and laughter.

This girl still didn’t know the situation!

But he could only follow her lead. So he said, “You go first. I’ll wait for Grace.”

“Where’s Grace?” Evie asked.

“She went to pick up her wife,” Alexander explained.

“Oh! Then I’ll go first,” Evie answered. She waved at Alexander and then walked ahead to the box.

Alexander went to the smoking area to have a cigarette.

When Evie entered the box, Amy and the others had already arrived.

Some were singing. Some were eating snacks. When they saw Evie come in, they asked her to sit down.

“Evie, where’s Mr. Sterling?” Chloe asked.

“They’ll be here in a minute,” Evie answered.

“Aren’t you with them?”

“No, no!” Evie stammered, embarrassed for a long time.

Instead of pressing further, they asked her what song she wanted to sing.

Evie didn’t know many songs. She named two.

Ella laughed. “Evie, you still sing campus songs!”

“Those are the only ones I can sing. Is that wrong?” Evie answered awkwardly.

“No, I’ll order them for you,” Ella replied.

Other people arrived with their families one after another. The box was soon full.

Alexander sat on a small sofa for two at the back, listening to them sing.

Evie was a bit stiff at first. But then she let loose, singing and dancing with the others.

“Evie, go ask Mr. Sterling what song he wants to sing,” Chloe urged after sitting down to rest.

“Oh, okay,” Evie answered. She got up to ask.

She went to Alexander’s side. “Alexander, do you want to sing a song?”

“You sing. I’ll listen,” Alexander replied.

“Everyone has sung. You should sing one or two too. Otherwise, it seems like you’re too antisocial,” Evie responded seriously.

“Please order two songs for me, Mrs. Sterling,” Alexander smiled.
