She and Alexander were both in their early twenties back then. Full of energy. She had rarely seen him so exhausted. Now, looking at his tired profile, she couldn't help feeling a pang of sadness. Over the years, she had heard news about him. Even without asking, his name always surfaced. People only saw the bright side of his success. But late at night, she wondered if this was what he truly wanted. If he ever felt drained. Seeing him now confirmed her suspicions. His life wasn't easy. During the ten-hour flight, Alexander only opened his eyes to eat or use the restroom. He didn't speak to Grace at all. Not until the plane began its descent. The cabin shook violently from the turbulence. Screams erupted around them. Grace didn't scream, but she was terrified. Instinctively, she reached out and grabbed Alexander's arm. He opened his eyes and glanced at her. “Sorry!” Grace let go quickly, apologizing. Alexander said nothing. He closed his eyes again. The plane jolted several more times. The intercom instructed everyone to stay seated, fasten seat belts, and avoid the restrooms. Muffled sobs came from economy class, making everyone more anxious. Grace finally gathered her courage. “Alexander, did you just get back from a business trip?” She used his name, afraid he wouldn't respond. It hurt her deeply. Even talking to him felt like a gamble. “Yes,” he replied flatly. “I’m on a business trip too. Heading to headquarters for a meeting,” Grace continued. Alexander didn't answer. “We used to take this flight. Do you remember?” Still no response. Grace kept talking, like a broken record, ignoring his silence. The plane landed smoothly. The cabin door opened. Passengers prepared to disembark. Alexander finally spoke. “What's the point of bringing that up now?” Grace stared at him, stunned. He grabbed his briefcase and suitcase from the overhead compartment and walked off. He didn't look back. He didn't ask how she would get home so late. None of that mattered to him anymore. Alexander called Evie as he walked through the VIP通道. His driver was waiting at the exit. He knew Evie was still awake, waiting for him. Grace followed behind, catching fragments of his voice. He was coaxing someone on the other end. She didn't need to guess who. Her heart ached, but she hid it well. She had lost the right to care. Just now, he had told her—what's the point now? She knew it meant nothing. But when the plane was shaking, she was so scared. Talking to him was the only way she knew to cope. Back when he used to take her home, they had taken this same flight. She had been terrified then too. He had teased her, distracting her from the fear. This time, he hadn't even lifted his eyelids. For a moment, a terrible thought crossed her mind. She wished something would really happen. Then she and Alexander would be together forever. But the next second, she felt horrified and ridiculous. She was willing. But he wasn't. Wishful thinking only brought more sorrow. At eleven o'clock, Evie received Alexander's call. The plane had landed safely. He told her not to wait up, to go to bed first. He would be home later. Evie agreed, telling him to be careful. She hung up, smiling at the thought of his return. But instead of sleeping, she went downstairs to cook him a late-night meal. He must be hungry after the flight. With his picky eating habits, the plane food wouldn't satisfy him. He would only eat enough to fill his stomach. This had become Evie's habit. Whenever Alexander returned from a trip and she was home, she would prepare food for him. Alexander arrived just as Evie finished cooking the noodles. Before she could tell him to shower first, he wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her. “Alexander, do you want to shower first or eat first?” Evie asked, laughing as she squirmed. “I told you to sleep first. Why didn't you listen?” “I napped today. I'm not sleepy yet,” Evie replied, turning to look at him. Alexander leaned in and kissed her lips. Just as Evie closed her eyes, he pulled back. “I'll shower first. Leave the noodles there. I'll come down and get them after.” “Okay,” Evie said. Alexander picked up his briefcase and walked out of the kitchen. Evie didn't follow his instructions exactly. After he went upstairs, she filled the bowls with noodles. She carried them to the coffee table in the second-floor living room, then returned. When Alexander came out of the bedroom after his shower, Evie was already waiting for him. He sat down beside her but didn't pick up his chopsticks. Instead, he looked at her. “Are you going to write a review again?” “No,” Evie shook her head. “Then ten minutes of oral review.” “What? No!” Evie said quickly. “Who told you to disobey?” “I was obedient. I didn't serve it until it was cold. Don't you think it's well served?” “If it wasn't, do you think we'd still be talking about this?” Alexander said with a glance. “I'm not that weak,” Evie muttered. “You're just clumsy sometimes,” Alexander said, only teasing her. He didn't really want her to do an oral review. He picked up the bowl and started eating. One bowl for Evie, one for him. Alexander ate attentively. Evie ate quietly, even though she wasn't hungry. She knew if she didn't eat with him, he would lose his appetite. She stole glances at him, a smile playing on her lips. “What's so interesting about me?” Alexander turned to look at her.
