Chapter 189

"Let's head back and cook whatever we have!" Alexander said.

"Ha, you can't do that. You need to relax and chat!"

"Being with you is relaxing!"

"That's true. I'm a ray of sunshine!" Evie boasted.

Alexander just smiled and didn't argue.

When they got back to Sterling Manor, Lily had already prepared dinner.

It turned out Alexander had called her ahead while picking up Evie.

So dinner was ready the moment they walked in.

Warmth filled Evie's heart. Alexander was always more thoughtful than she realized.

So many times, she hadn't even thought of something, and he'd already planned it out.

Being with him always made her feel safe.

Like no matter what happened, he would handle it.

Evie ate dinner, sneaking glances at him.

Alexander looked up. "What's wrong with you today?"

"Nothing!" she replied blankly.

"Is there something on my face?"

"You're handsome!" she said with a sly grin.

"Focus on eating. You can stare after you finish. I don't know how you manage to eat without food!" he sighed, putting a piece of food in her bowl.

Evie stuck out her tongue secretly, thinking he'd never heard the saying "food tastes better when you're with someone you love"?

But she focused on her meal anyway, or he'd lecture her again.

She realized Alexander was like a teacher, always scolding her. This wasn't good, that wasn't right.

And she was like a mischievous student who never learned, always giving the teacher a headache.

After dinner, they sat in the living room on the second floor to rest before showering.

"Is your classmate doing better?" Alexander asked.

"She was in a lot of pain after the anesthesia yesterday, but she felt much better by the afternoon. She can be discharged in two days, then come back to get the stitches out!" Evie replied.

Alexander nodded and didn't ask more.

"By the way, she's worried about the medical bills. Can everything be covered?" Evie asked.

"You should ask the traffic police and the insurance company about that!" Alexander said.

Evie laughed.

"I thought you knew everything!"

"You really think I'm a walking encyclopedia!"

"I think you're even better than one!" Evie answered firmly.

Alexander looked at her quietly, and she felt embarrassed. "I'm serious. You're amazing!"

"No matter how amazing I am, I'm still just an ordinary person!"

"You're the superhero of ordinary people!" Evie said seriously.

Alexander looked at her and couldn't help laughing.

"If you keep this up, your husband will turn into Superman!"

"You're not Superman. You're a god, the god in my heart!" Evie said, her face turning red.

Alexander reached out and touched her cheek. "Is that a sweet talk or a confession?"

"Whatever you want it to be!" she replied, blushing.

She'd learned from him to adapt to changes.

Alexander burst out laughing.

"What's so funny!" Evie muttered unhappily.

"Evie, I'm very happy. Being your god is enough!" he said.

Evie's face turned even redder, and she stopped talking.

But deep down, she was thrilled. He could only be her god!

Evie was getting better in the secretarial office now. She still made mistakes occasionally, but at least no more basic ones.

Even Chloe's attitude toward her had gradually changed. She felt Evie was a promising talent.

Emily stayed in the hospital for four days and was discharged. In three more days, she'd come back to get the stitches out.

She still limped a little, but at least she could return to the company for her internship.

Because of her injury, her mentor didn't ask her to do physical work, only clerical tasks.

Emily did them more seriously than before.

Maybe it was the accident. Lying in the hospital, she'd thought a lot. She realized money wasn't everything, but without it, you couldn't do anything.

She could still call home for help, but she was about to graduate. She couldn't rely on her family forever.

If she couldn't seize the opportunity, fight for the final contract, and stay at Sterling Group after graduation, it would be even harder to get in later.

After figuring this out, Emily cherished the internship even more.

Evie was still busy all day. Besides working with Amy, other secretaries assigned her more tasks.

At first, seeing so much to do made her dizzy. But gradually, she learned to find order in the chaos and handle things systematically.

Evie was becoming more and more capable.

But no matter how much she did, Alexander allowed her to work overtime at the company but never let her bring work home.

Evie protested, saying only the emperor could set fires, not the common people!

Alexander generously admitted that was right!

So she had nothing to say.

Now, even when she came home, while he read documents or worked overtime in his study, she could only read books, surf the internet, play the piano, or listen to music.

The school anniversary was next month, so she had time to practice again.

On Saturday afternoon, Evie wanted to go back to her mother's house.

She got a call from Vivian, Alexander's third sister. "Evie, it's Vivian. Are you free this afternoon?" Vivian's voice came through the phone.

"I was planning to go back to my mother's house this afternoon. Nothing special. What's up, third sister?" Evie answered.

"Well, this afternoon, Julia and I want to go out and ask you to join us. You've been married into our family for a while, and we haven't had a chance to chat!" Vivian said with a smile.

"Yes, you and Julia are very busy, and I didn't know when to find you. Otherwise, I'll go back to my mother's house tomorrow. Where do you want to go?" Evie thought for a moment.

It was rare for Julia and Vivian to invite her shopping. Refusing directly seemed rude.

She'd go back to her mother's house tomorrow.

"Just walk around. You don't mind shopping with us, do you?" Vivian said with a laugh.

"Of course not. I'm very happy! What time are we going out?"

"How about three o'clock? We'll go shopping after our nap!"

"Okay!" Evie agreed.

"At three, we'll call you at Sterling Manor!"

"I'll come directly to you, Julia and Vivian!"

"Then let's meet in front of the main house. That way, we don't have to go out of our way!"

"Okay!" Evie replied with a smile.

It didn't matter where they met.

But making Julia and Vivian come all the way to Sterling Manor to pick her up wasn't right.

After making plans with Vivian, Evie put her phone aside and went into the walk-in closet to pick out clothes for the afternoon.
