"The moon isn't any rounder overseas," Grace said with a smile.
"It's true. The place we went for our honeymoon was beautiful too. But it's good to see the world. Like you, you've been so many places and seen so many things. That's real life experience and growth," Evie exclaimed.
"It's not easy for you to get out. Just let Alexander take you."
"Yes, he said to tell him in advance where I want to go so he can arrange the time. But he's always so busy. I feel bad asking," Evie replied with a smile.
"Where do you want to go? Next time I travel, you can come with me."
"Ha, okay. But I'll probably be a lot of trouble. I'm so clumsy."
"It's fine. Just follow me and you won't get lost. I'm not clumsy," Grace answered.
They ate and chatted like that. The atmosphere was wonderful.
Evie realized Grace was actually very talkative. It was completely different from the first impression she'd had of her.
After dinner, Evie tried to pay the bill. The waiter told her it was already taken care of.
"Didn't we agree I was treating?" Evie turned to Grace, surprised.
"It's fine. You can get the next one," Grace said with a smile.
"I feel bad. You're the guest here, and you paid."
"It's nothing. We're friends," Grace shook her head.
Evie had no choice. "Next time, you can't fight me for the bill."
"Okay," Grace nodded, smiling.
They walked out of the restaurant together. Grace and Evie walked back to the Sterling Group building. Then Grace drove back to work.
Evie went upstairs to the company.
She had eaten too much at lunch. Sitting down was uncomfortable.
Evie had to stand and digest. She took out her phone to text Alexander.
"Did you have lunch?"
A moment later, Alexander called directly.
Evie quickly pressed the answer button. She looked awkwardly around at the other secretaries in the office. Then she walked out of the secretary's room.
She went to the stairwell and answered the phone.
"Yes," Alexander's voice came from the other end.
"Oh, I just got back from lunch too," Evie said with a smile.
"When did you get so close to Grace?" Alexander asked.
"No, she just came to the company to drop something off. I saw her and made a lunch date. She's very talkative. Totally different from the cold impression she used to give me," Evie explained with a laugh.
"Someone gives you a little sugar, and you follow them," Alexander said dismissively.
"No! It's not like she's a human trafficker. We're friends. It's normal to have dinner together. Are you jealous I didn't invite you at noon?" Evie teased.
"You're happy," Alexander sighed.
"Ha ha, I'm joking. We women gossip together. You wouldn't like to join in anyway. Get some rest. I don't want to disturb you. I ate too much for lunch. Now I can't sit down. I have to walk and digest."
"Come to my office," Alexander said.
"What's wrong?" Evie asked immediately.
"Does the president need a reason to ask you to come?"
"It's almost time to get off work now," Evie replied, pouting.
"Overtime," Alexander said angrily.
Evie wanted to say that even the boss couldn't force employees to do whatever he wanted.
Besides, she wasn't officially working overtime now. And she wasn't getting paid for it.
But she could only think that in her head. She had no courage to protest.
"Now?" she asked, still struggling.
"It doesn't matter if you don't want to come here," Alexander continued.
"Oh, okay," Evie answered. She couldn't help but feel secretly happy. Finally, she didn't have to go.
"I'll come find you in the secretary's office," Alexander added.
"Ah? I'll go to your office. Now. Immediately. Right now," Evie suddenly panicked. The next second, she came to her senses and replied immediately.
Then she hung up without saying another word. She walked toward the president's office.
As she walked, she lowered her head and thought. How could he be so unreasonable?
How could he abuse his employees like this?
How could he be so overbearing?
Before she finished complaining, she had already reached the door of the president's office.
She looked around, just like a thief. Then she reached out and knocked.
"Come in."
Alexander's voice came from inside.
Evie opened the door and went in. After closing the door, she turned around. She didn't see Alexander at his desk.
She muttered, "Where is he?" Turning her head, she saw Alexander sitting on the sofa, staring at her.
Evie was startled.
"Come here," Alexander said without expression.
"Oh," she answered quietly and walked over. "What do you need? I have to go back to work soon."
"Is it a problem to want to see you?" Alexander played with Evie's long hair and answered.
Evie's face turned red.
"I haven't seen you all day. I'll see you at home tonight," she said quietly.
Alexander didn't respond to Evie's words. He just looked at her quietly and played with her hair.
"Are you in a bad mood?" Evie looked at Alexander and asked.
"No," Alexander answered calmly.
"But you seem a little different today," Evie said.
"Different how?"
"Just a little unhappy."
"Do I?"
"I feel it," Evie nodded.
"Your feelings aren't accurate."
"No, my feelings are always accurate. Besides, don't they say a woman's sixth sense is always right?" Evie said seriously.
"Then tell me why I'm unhappy," Alexander hugged Evie and asked her to sit on his lap.
Evie was embarrassed. She reminded him in a low voice, "This is the company."
"My office. They won't just walk in."
Evie wanted to say that wasn't the point.
The point was this was the company. And she had to go back to work soon.
Alexander didn't make any further moves. He just held Evie and talked to her.
"Where should we go for dinner tonight?"
"Don't you want to go home to eat?" Evie asked.
Alexander didn't like eating out. He was a very homey person. If there was no need, he always tried to go back to eat.
"Let's go out and celebrate."
"Celebrate what?" Evie asked curiously.
It didn't seem like a special day today.
"We've known each other and been married for half a year."
Evie immediately smiled. "That's worth celebrating."
"There's no rule that says we can't celebrate half a year."
"Okay, you decide," Evie laughed.
"You decide where to celebrate. Just let me know before work ends," Alexander said.
"Why do I have to decide?" Evie blurted out.
"You're more free," Alexander gave a sufficient reason. Evie couldn't argue.
"..." Evie was speechless.
Finally, she could only nod and agree.
Because compared to Alexander, she really was the more idle one.
