"I'm in the lobby on the first floor. Are you done for the day?" Evie asked.
"Just finished. I'll drive around. Wait for me by the entrance," Alexander replied.
"Okay." Evie hung up, slipped her phone into her bag, placed the magazine back on the rack, and walked out of the building with her purse.
It was past nine. Aside from the traffic on the street outside, Sterling Tower was quiet. Only a few floors still had their lights on, people working late.
A car pulled up beside Evie. She opened the door and climbed into the passenger seat.
"You worked late today," Evie muttered as she fastened her seatbelt.
"Miss, you're in the wrong car," a strange voice said.
Evie froze, her heart jolting. She turned her head and saw a young man smiling at her.
"I'm so sorry. Wrong car," Evie stammered, quickly unbuckling her seatbelt and getting out.
How embarrassing. Getting into a stranger's car.
Just then, a girl walked over, glanced at Evie, and got into the vehicle.
Evie heard the woman ask, "Who was that?"
The man replied, "Wrong car."
Evie wished the ground would swallow her whole.
Luckily, the car drove off quickly.
Evie just prayed they had face blindness and hadn't seen her clearly.
A moment later, Alexander's car stopped at the porch.
This time, Evie wasn't so reckless. She first checked the model. It was Alexander's car.
Then she opened the passenger door and looked down at the driver. It was definitely Alexander.
She got in with a sigh of relief.
"You're being cautious today. That's rare," Alexander said, looking at her.
Evie felt embarrassed.
She didn't want to tell him she'd just gotten into the wrong car.
"Being careful isn't a bad thing," Evie mumbled, trying to sound nonchalant.
"If you're always like this, I'll be relieved," Alexander said with a smile, pulling away from the company.
Evie wanted to say something but stopped herself.
Because Alexander had always told her to be careful. She used to just get into the car without even looking.
She'd always nod, then forget everything he said.
And now she'd actually gotten into the wrong car.
Thankfully, the guy wasn't a bad person. Otherwise, she could have been taken somewhere deserted, and her life would be over.
Maybe she was overthinking, but it was a real possibility.
So, listening to Alexander was always the right thing to do. She needed to be more careful in the future.
"Why were you waiting for me downstairs today?" Alexander asked as he drove.
"Everyone was off work. I don't have a key card, so I had to go downstairs," Evie said truthfully.
It was strange that she couldn't wait at the secretary's office door for him to get off work.
"You don't have a key card?" Alexander was surprised.
"No. I'm an intern. I'm not a regular employee, so I don't have one."
"If this happens again, call me first."
"Oh, will you leave work with me early then?" Evie asked excitedly.
"No."
Evie couldn't help but roll her eyes. What was the point of calling?
"Let the driver take you home first," Alexander continued.
"Oh, it's fine. You don't work this late every day," Evie said.
When they got back to Sterling Manor, they washed up and sat on the second-floor sofa. One read a book, the other read a document.
Evie leaned against Alexander.
At first, she was leaning on the armrest. Later, she somehow ended up leaning against him.
Alexander let her. He stopped looking at his documents, looked down at her, and asked, "Are you getting used to the internship?"
"Yes."
"Have you made any mistakes?"
"Yes," Evie said. She sat up straight, turned her head, and looked at him. "I was copying materials today, and I broke the copier."
"You copied the materials for the afternoon meeting?"
"Yes. The copier in the secretary's office broke," Evie replied with a pout.
"Then you didn't care?" Alexander asked.
"No, there was another one, but you had to manually turn the pages and feed the paper. I used that one later. When I was binding them, I didn't check clearly. One page was blurry," Evie said truthfully.
"Were you criticized?"
"No, I apologized," Evie said.
She didn't dare tell him the truth. Because of this, Secretary Chloe had a problem with her. She felt wronged.
But Secretary Amelia was right. Even though she was just helping, she had the responsibility to do the job well.
"It's hard to avoid mistakes when you're working. Just learn from them and don't make the same mistake again."
"Yeah, Secretary Amelia said the same thing," Evie nodded with a smile, then asked, "Alexander, did you ever have problems like this?"
"If I said yes, would it make you feel better?" Alexander looked down at her and asked with a smile.
"No, I was just asking," Evie replied with a dry laugh.
She would never admit she was just being nosy.
"Yes," Alexander answered lightly.
"Really? Really?" Evie looked at him curiously.
"What's that expression? Schadenfreude?" Alexander asked, amused.
Evie stuck out her tongue and said with a smile, "No, I just didn't think you were the type to make mistakes."
"Don't flatter me. Don't think that way, or I'll forget that you still owe me two reviews," Alexander said, pinching her cheek.
"Reviews? What reviews?" Evie asked blankly.
"Including now, that's three. Give them to me before bed tomorrow night," Alexander explained directly.
"Ah! Ah! Why is it three again?" Evie cried.
"The third one is for forgetting about the first two. It shows you haven't learned your lesson," Alexander said matter-of-factly.
"How could I forget? I just haven't written them yet!" Evie pouted.
"The fourth one is for asking knowingly, being unreasonable, and lying."
"No, no, I know I'm wrong. Two reviews, that's it. Deal?" Evie quickly hugged his arm and acted cute.
"Any questions?" Alexander asked.
"No!" Evie immediately shook her head like a rattle.
"Do you have any questions before bed tomorrow night?"
"Yes... No!"
"Is there a problem or not?"
"If I say there is a problem, will there be a problem?" Evie asked carefully.
"What do you think?" Alexander looked directly at her and asked with a smile.
"Ha ha, no problem," Evie laughed dryly and answered without principle.
The next second, she let go of Alexander, got up, and walked towards the study.
"Why?" Alexander asked.
"To write a review. Otherwise, I'll have nothing to give you tomorrow," Evie said angrily.
"Nothing. You can write it after work tomorrow," Alexander said with a smile.
