"It's fine, even if we talk about it. As long as I like it! I'm just depressed that none of the blind dates are my type!" Emily sighed.
"Don't worry. Take your time. If you don't like this one, wait for the next. If you don't like the next one, keep going. There's bound to be one you like!" Evie encouraged.
"Damn, are you comforting me or pouring cold water on me?" Emily rolled her eyes.
"No, I mean fate is something you can't force. Just let it be." Evie explained with an awkward smile.
"I guess so!" Emily nodded. "Anyway, now that school's started, I can take a break from blind dates."
"Will your parents call the school directly to check on your love life?" Stella asked with a grin.
"Shut up! No way!" Emily glared at Stella.
Stella laughed, and Evie couldn't help but chuckle.
"It's not that serious. Anyway, we still have to do our internships!"
"Speaking of internships, we haven't figured ours out yet!"
"Once the graduation thesis is done, we can look into the internship issue again!"
"There's no conflict between the two. We can do them at the same time!"
"Evie, did you know that Sterling Group started recruiting interns?" Emily turned to ask Evie.
"Huh? I didn't know!" Evie replied blankly, looking confused.
"It seems you weren't paying attention. I thought since you know the boss of Sterling Group, you'd have some inside info!"
"I don't know!" Evie shook her head.
She never asked Alexander these questions. Besides, whether or not they were hiring interns, Alexander probably wouldn't know the details!
"Go check Sterling Group's official website. If they're recruiting, there should be information posted!" Stella said.
"Yeah, I'll check it later!" Emily nodded.
After finishing their roujiamo and casserole noodles, the three of them headed back to school, their stomachs full.
They discussed the internship issue along the way.
Evie hadn't thought about it before. Now that they brought it up, she started to consider where she wanted to intern.
She didn't want to intern at Sterling Group. She didn't want to work in the same company as Alexander. It would be less awkward that way.
Of course, she also didn't want to intern at her father's company. Her major didn't match.
So now she had to start looking for an internship.
Back in the dorm, Emily turned on her computer and went to Sterling Group's official website.
She found the recruitment page. "Look, look, they're hiring ten interns!" Emily suddenly exclaimed excitedly.
Stella came over and took a closer look. "They really are recruiting!"
"Let's send in our resumes and give it a try!" Emily urged.
"It's probably hard to get in. Sterling Group is tough to enter. There will probably be hundreds of thousands of applicants!" Stella hesitated.
"No matter how many people apply, it's better to try than not. At least it's an opportunity!" Emily said.
"That's true. Let's all three apply together! Evie, you too!" Stella turned to say.
"Ah? I don't need to. I definitely won't get in!" Evie said quickly.
"Even if it's a one in a thousand chance, it's still a chance!" Emily stared at Evie.
"If I apply, I'll just increase the denominator. Won't that lower your chances?" Evie said with a smile.
"Damn, who cares about your small denominator? Let's all apply together. Even if only one of us gets in! Besides strength, sometimes it's about luck. Maybe you'll be the lucky one!" Emily said.
Evie couldn't argue, so she had to submit her resume too.
Anyway, their resumes were already prepared. Sending one more was just one more email.
So all three of them applied for the internship at Sterling Group. Then they browsed the recruitment info of some other companies. Following the strategy of casting a wide net, they applied to more places. Maybe a blind cat would catch a dead mouse!
Evie stayed at school until dusk.
Alexander hadn't finished work yet. Evie wanted to call him and ask when he'd be off. Then she thought he might be busy, so she sent a text instead.
Alexander called her back later. He said she didn't need to wait for him for dinner. He had a dinner party.
So Evie asked Lily to prepare dinner for her alone. Then she sat on the second-floor sofa reading.
The topic for her thesis hadn't been decided yet. She couldn't prepare materials for it now.
She couldn't find relevant information until she finished her research. So for now, she'd better review some professional knowledge. When it was time for the internship written exam, she'd have a solid foundation.
Later, when Alexander came back, Evie had already fallen asleep.
She was sleeping on the sofa, a book in her hand.
Alexander came over and picked her up. Evie woke up.
When she opened her eyes and saw Alexander vaguely, she muttered, "You're back!"
"Yeah, why are you sleeping here?" Alexander asked with a frown.
"I was so sleepy, I just dozed off. Put me down!" Evie struggled to get out of Alexander's arms. "Hungry? I'll cook you a snack!"
"No, I've eaten!"
"Oh, do you want to take a bath? I'll run the water for you!" Evie said again.
"You sleep. I'll do it myself!" Alexander said, pulling Evie into the bedroom.
Evie sat on the edge of the bed, yawning. She was still sleepy, but not so sleepy that she could just lie down and fall asleep.
And she hadn't brushed her teeth or washed her face yet.
Evie left the bedroom and poured a glass of warm water for Alexander.
Then, after he took a bath, she went into the bathroom to brush her teeth and wash her face.
"School started today?" Alexander asked Evie as she came out of the bathroom.
"School starts the day after tomorrow. Today, I helped Emily and Stella organize their things." Evie answered truthfully.
"Any classes this semester?" Alexander asked again.
"No classes, but I have to finish my thesis and internship report."
"Need help?" Alexander reached out his hand.
"No need!" Evie came over, took Alexander's hand, and climbed onto the bed.
Alexander smiled. "Alright, then!"
"Okay!" Evie nodded with a smile.
Over the next few days, Evie went back and forth between school and Sterling Manor.
Although there were no classes, there were still many things to do. They often had meetings or something.
Then, both Evie and Emily received calls from Sterling Group, asking them to attend the first interview.
Back in the dorm, Emily said excitedly, "I got a call from Sterling Group! They want me to interview tomorrow afternoon. Did you guys get one?"
"I didn't get one!" Evie raised her hand.
"I didn't get one either!" Stella said. "Congratulations, Emily!"
"No way, I'm the only one who got the call!" Emily said in disbelief.
Just then, Evie's phone rang. "Evie, maybe that's from Sterling Group's HR department!"
"Impossible!" Evie smiled and waved her hand.
She took out her phone and saw it was a landline number. She hesitated before answering. As it turned out, her worst fear came true. It was a call from Sterling Group's HR department, asking her to attend the interview tomorrow afternoon.
Evie hung up the phone and looked up at Emily and Stella. "We all heard it!" Emily and Stella said in unison.
