Chapter 128

Iris Hart praised Alexander for his gratitude, filial piety, and kindness. She said she would be happy if Evelyn married him.

This wasn't the first time Evelyn had heard such words. But the feeling was always the same.

It was clear that Alexander was a man with a strong sense of responsibility. He was good enough to be entrusted with someone's life.

Iris said a lot of things. But she said nothing about Evelyn's mother.

Obviously, they had shared many hardships together. But they also had a lot of happiness.

"Evelyn, live well with Alexander. Have more children. Make the family lively." Iris finally took Evelyn's hand and patted the back of it.

Evelyn nodded shyly.

Later, Alexander came upstairs. Iris told them to rest early and went downstairs.

Alexander saw Iris downstairs. When she entered her room, he went back upstairs.

"What did you talk about with Iris?" Alexander asked with a smile.

Evelyn was about to say something when she caught Alexander's eye. She suddenly shut up and couldn't speak. She almost fell into his trap.

Evelyn pretended to be sleepy. She crawled to the inside of the bed, lay down, and pulled the quilt over herself. Then she looked at Alexander.

Alexander turned off the light and lay down beside her.

In the darkness, accompanied by the sound of the tide, Evelyn heard Alexander say, "It's going to be okay. I won't let anything happen to you!"

She knew Alexander would protect her. So she didn't worry about it.

Maybe it was because Alexander was beside her. Maybe it was because Evelyn was tired after a day's trouble. After a while, she fell asleep.

Alexander couldn't sleep. The image of last night was always in his mind.

He had been chatting with the islanders, drinking the glutinous rice wine they made themselves. He had just glanced at Hazel's eyes. Hazel stretched her leg out to Evelyn's side. Evelyn, who was unprepared, tripped and rushed forward because of her inertia.

And there was a burning pile of firewood ahead.

All he felt was that his heart stopped all of a sudden. He almost reflexively rushed over.

It all happened in an instant.

Evelyn didn't rush into the firewood. The people around her quickly pulled her back.

There was no bigger accident.

But the silly Evelyn didn't know what was going on. She yelled, "I'm okay! I'm okay! I just twisted my foot!"

What a worrying and distressing child!

The next day, Evelyn slept very late. She kept having nightmares all night. Until she heard Alexander's voice, she gradually calmed down. Then she fell asleep.

In the morning, she felt her face itch. Evelyn reached out to scratch it. Alexander pulled her hand down and said, "Don't touch it!"

Evelyn opened her eyes, saw Alexander, and laughed. "Morning!"

"Is your face still painful?"

"No pain, but it's itchy!" Evelyn responded.

"Eli is waiting downstairs. Go downstairs and let him see if your face and foot are any better."

Alexander had already brought her clothes over. He stood by the bed.

"I want to change clothes!"

"Change!" Alexander calmly replied.

"Don't stand here!" Evelyn said, embarrassed.

"I'm your husband. What's there to be shy about? Do you want me to help you change?" Alexander didn't look away. He calmly looked at Evelyn.

"No, no, I'll do it myself!" Evelyn shook her head like a rattle.

She wriggled to unbutton her clothes. Then she changed with the fastest speed.

Alexander looked at her actions and couldn't help laughing. But Evelyn's face was red.

When they went downstairs, Eli Hudson saw Evelyn's face and was startled. "Why is it so red!"

"No, I'm hot!" Evelyn said. Then she was even more embarrassed.

Eli took a look at Alexander. But Alexander was indifferent. Eli reacted and laughed.

He let Evelyn sit down and checked her face. "Okay, no blistering. No inflammatory symptoms. Should be no problem."

"Should?" Alexander squinted, obviously dissatisfied with Eli's words.

"Please, don't say that. Even if there's no problem at all, the doctor doesn't dare to guarantee that there's absolutely no problem!" Eli said with tears and laughter.

"You'd better make sure my wife's face is more important than mine." Alexander responded directly.

"Don't worry. If you're not too violent, there won't be any accident!" Eli said with a smile. He began to check Evelyn's sprained foot.

Evelyn looked at Alexander, then at Eli. She didn't quite understand their dialogue. "Does the injury on my face have anything to do with Alexander?"

Eli was immediately asked by Evelyn's words. He looked up at Alexander and said, "You can solve the problems between your husband and wife by yourself!"

"What Eli means is, when we are intimate, don't try too hard. There won't be any problems!" Alexander looked at Evelyn and said.

Evelyn heard Alexander's words. She immediately made a big red face. Almost reflexively, she blurted out a word—pervert.

Eli checked Evelyn's sprained ankle. He found that the swelling had gone down a lot.

"Hot compress today. It's almost enough." Eli stood up and said.

"Eli, is my home all right?" Iris asked.

"Sister Iris, it's okay!" Eli said.

"If it's all right, let's have breakfast together. I've finished making breakfast."

"No, Sister Iris, I'm going to—"

"I'll go after eating. It's not too late!" Alexander said. He picked up Evelyn and walked towards the kitchen.

"I'll just go myself." Evelyn said shyly.

"Didn't you hear the doctor say that you still need a hot compress today?" Alexander calmly replied.

The implication was that it wasn't quite good yet!

Eli looked at Alexander, a poor man who was in a long-distance relationship with his fiancée. He was in tears and laughter.

Eli finally finished his breakfast before going to the clinic.

Evelyn ate two bowls of porridge. Alexander said to eat more.

Evelyn couldn't help muttering, "I'm not a pig!"

"If only you were a pig. Pigs wouldn't be picky!"

Evelyn was speechless for a long time.

She wasn't very picky, either.

After breakfast, Alexander went to rub a hot towel to help Evelyn compress.

Because of Evelyn's injury, there was no way to go diving.

Evelyn was quite depressed about this.

During this time, Alexander received a call from the company and went upstairs.

Evelyn wanted to sit in the yard. She didn't go upstairs with Alexander.

When Evelyn was a little bored, she saw Hazel poking around.

"Hazel, are you looking for Alexander?"

Hazel shook her head. She bit her lip and said, "I... I'm looking for you!"

"Then why are you standing there? Come up and sit down!" Evelyn said with a smile.

Hazel hesitated for a moment. She came up.

"You... Is your face okay?"

"It's okay. Doctor Eli said it's okay!" Evelyn responded. She asked Hazel to sit on the next chair.

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean it!" Hazel answered with her head down.

"It has nothing to do with you!" Evelyn said with a smile.

"Actually... I did it on purpose at the beginning!"

"Ah?" Evelyn looked at Hazel in amazement.

"Actually, I just wanted to make a joke with you. I didn't expect it to be so serious!" Hazel's eyes were red. She choked up as she replied.

Evelyn looked at Hazel blankly. Suddenly, she didn't quite understand.

"Why did you want to make fun of me?"
