Evelyn didn't sleep for long. Not long after Gray went downstairs, she heard a girl's voice and woke up. She lay in bed for a while before getting up. After looking around, she pushed back the covers and walked to the window. What she saw was a stretch of lush trees, layered rocks, and the distant horizon. Her mood lifted instantly.
"Awake?" Hearing Gray's voice, Evelyn turned her head and said excitedly, "Gray, look at this beautiful sea view." "I don't feel seasick anymore." Gray walked over and said with a smile. "Not dizzy!" Evelyn replied immediately. "The view here is amazing!" "Alright, I'll take you out for a walk after we eat." "Great!" Evelyn nodded excitedly.
She went downstairs and walked to the sink to wash up. The water was spring water from the mountain, sweet and refreshing. Evelyn brushed her teeth while studying the direction of the bamboo pipe that carried the water. She thought everything here was so poetic.
After she washed her face, Iris came out of the study carrying oyster noodle soup. Gray led Evelyn over and introduced her. "Iris, this is Evelyn, my wife. Evelyn, this is Iris, the nanny who raised me since I was a child." "Hello, Iris. I'm Evelyn." Evelyn greeted respectfully. "Mm, come here. Make yourself at home." Iris nodded faintly and said, "The noodle soup is ready. You can eat now." "Thank you, Iris." Evelyn said again. Iris didn't say anything else and walked away.
Evelyn turned her head and asked Gray anxiously, "Iris... she doesn't seem to like me very much." "No, Iris is just cold by nature. You'll understand her after you spend more time with her." Gray comforted her. "Okay." Evelyn was relieved and nodded with a smile.
Gray took her to the kitchen to eat the oyster noodle soup. The kitchen was actually where they ate. The dining table was in the kitchen by the window. Gray took out chopsticks from the cupboard and handed them to Evelyn. Evelyn took the chopsticks, sat on the bench, and waited with a smile. Gray filled a bowl and placed it on the table in front of Evelyn. Then he served himself a bowl and sat down beside her. "Eat while it's hot. Iris's oyster noodle soup is really good." "Mm." Evelyn nodded.
After blowing on it, she took a sip of the soup. It was a bit bland. But since it was her first time as a guest, she was too embarrassed to say anything. "The soup will be a little light. The oysters just caught from the sea are very salty. It balances out perfectly." Gray explained from the side. Evelyn was a little surprised that Gray could read her mind. She wasn't sure if it was just a coincidence. It probably was. She picked up an oyster, blew on it, and took a bite. It was very delicious. And just as Gray said, it was salty! So she ate the oyster noodles and drank the soup. The saltiness was just right, and the taste was excellent. "Delicious!" Evelyn looked up and said contentedly. Gray looked at Evelyn with a smile and said, "There are many delicious things here. You can try them slowly." "Okay!" Evelyn nodded excitedly.
She could go back and show off to her sister. She and Gray went to a beautiful island for their honeymoon and ate a lot of delicious food! Evelyn was already full after eating two bowls of oyster noodle soup. If it weren't for her, she would have kept eating. It was the first time she had such delicious oyster noodle soup.
After cleaning up and washing the bowls, Evelyn and Gray walked out of the small building. They went for a walk first. The sea breeze blew, carrying a touch of salt and moisture. It was a little chilly, but not very cold. The temperature here was much higher than in the city they lived in. It felt more like autumn.
"Gray, did you live here with Iris since you were a child?" Evelyn asked curiously. "Iris is from the island. When she went out to study, she met my father. After she got married, she worked in my family for a while." Gray explained. "Then how did you come here with Iris?" "It's a long story. I'll tell you later." Gray said, holding Evelyn's head. Evelyn felt a little embarrassed. Gray always liked to touch her head like she was a child! Gray didn't continue, and Evelyn didn't ask. Soon, she was attracted by the surrounding scenery.
Gray took her for a walk along the coastline. Because of the high tide, the waves were bigger than at noon. They crashed against the rocks and stirred up spray. Evelyn was a little excited and blurted out, "There must be a lot of fish in the sea!" Gray turned his head and looked at Evelyn. Evelyn came back to herself and said with some embarrassment, "I mean, can we go fishing or something?" "Yes, if you're interested. Or we can go diving. Can you swim?" "No!" Evelyn shook her head. She couldn't even swim, let alone dive. But looking at this stretch of blue sea, to be honest, she was still very interested. A look of eagerness appeared on her face. "I'll take you diving in a couple of days." "Great, great!" Evelyn nodded immediately.
The next second, she suddenly thought of a very important thing. "Oh no, I forgot to bring my swimsuit!" She said with a dismayed face. Gray said with a smile, "What you wear for diving is a wetsuit, not a swimsuit. It doesn't matter if you don't have a swimsuit!" "Oh!" Evelyn was relieved and laughed.
Gray and Evelyn strolled around the island. They didn't circle the entire island, because time didn't allow it, and they were too tired. Along the way, Gray patiently introduced Evelyn to the plants they saw. Because she was a curious person, she had to ask about everything she didn't know. Evelyn found that she learned more here than she did in biology class!
When they came to a tree with apricot-like fruit, Evelyn asked curiously, "Gray, can you eat that fruit?" "Want to eat it?" Gray looked at Evelyn with a smile. "Can I eat it?" Evelyn nodded and continued to ask. "Yes!" Gray said. He walked over, picked a few, and handed them to Evelyn. He kept only one in his hand. After peeling off the skin, he took a bite and said, "It's very sweet. Try it." As soon as Evelyn heard it was very sweet, and saw that Gray was enjoying it, she also peeled one and took a bite. The next second, her face scrunched up. She quickly spat out the flesh in her mouth. "It's so sour!" Gray laughed. Evelyn frowned at Gray and said, "You're so mean!" "Is it delicious?" Gray asked deliberately. "It's so sour! It's not delicious at all!" "It's sour if you eat it like this, but you'll like it if it's made into sour plum cake. If Iris has time, she can make it for you." Gray took Evelyn's hand and walked forward, saying. "Is the sour plum cake that sour?" "Sour and sweet." "Oh, that should be okay." Evelyn said with lingering fear. After tasting that just now, she couldn't help shivering when she thought about it. It was sour from her skin to her toes, so sour it had no friends!
"Hazel—" Gray saw Hazel and called out with a smile.
