“Here you are.” Evelyn felt a little embarrassed as she spoke to Alexander.
“Sister-in-law!” Alexander greeted his sister-in-law first, then turned back to Evelyn’s words. “Evie, I’m here to pick you up.”
“Ah, Mo is here too. Let’s have dinner here.”
“Don’t trouble yourself, sister-in-law. We’ll just go back and eat.” Evelyn said quickly.
“It’s no trouble. Just eat here. Mo hasn’t visited Rose Garden Villa in a long time!” Isabella looked at Alexander and said anxiously.
“Please, sister-in-law. Evie and I will have dinner here tonight.” Alexander responded.
“Alright, alright. You two sit down. I’ll fry a couple of dishes. It’ll be ready soon!” Isabella immediately replied joyfully.
“I’ll help you, sister-in-law!” Evelyn felt too embarrassed to just sit and wait for the food, so she offered.
“No, no. Just sit down and chat with Mo. I’m quick in the kitchen!” With that, Isabella went to the kitchen.
Harper followed her in, to take care of the young lady.
Evelyn watched her sister-in-law’s retreating back. She was a little puzzled by her reaction just now. However, she figured her sister-in-law often mistook Alexander for Ethan.
Turning to Alexander, she asked sheepishly, “How did you know I was here?”
“Did you forget the way home?” Alexander didn’t answer her directly, but asked a rhetorical question instead.
“I didn’t go out. I’m looking after my family here! Besides, I’m not a kid.” Evelyn answered.
Alexander looked at Evelyn. He couldn’t refute her words for a moment. He just reached out and caressed her cheek.
Evelyn’s face turned red. She took Alexander’s hand and muttered, “My sister-in-law is here!”
Alexander smiled but didn’t say anything. He pulled Evelyn to sit down.
Seeing the teacup in front of Evelyn, he naturally picked it up and drank from it.
“That’s mine!”
“I know it’s yours.” Alexander responded.
Evelyn wanted to say, you still drink it when you know it’s mine!
The next second, she realized his meaning was that he drank it because he knew it was hers.
Was this an indirect kiss?
This idea popped into Evelyn’s mind, and the next second she wanted to slap herself.
She was always thinking about things like that!
Isabella cooked several dishes that Alexander liked. She also prepared some extra dishes. Then she asked Harper to come and tell Evelyn and Alexander to eat in the dining room.
Evelyn followed Alexander into the dining room. She was still wondering about her sister-in-law’s cooking skills. When she saw the dishes on the table, her eyes widened in astonishment. She knew her previous concerns were totally unnecessary.
Although she still didn’t know how it tasted, just looking at the appearance of the dishes was enough to make her mouth water.
“Sister-in-law, did you make all of this?” Evelyn asked in surprise.
“Yes. I forgot to ask what you liked to eat just now, so I prepared a few dishes myself. Tell me what you like later, and I’ll make it for you!” Isabella said with a smile.
“Okay!” Evelyn happily nodded her head. The next second, she felt her answer seemed too impolite, so she quickly corrected herself. “Thank you, sister-in-law. I’m not picky!”
“Let’s eat, sister-in-law.” Alexander finished speaking and took Evelyn to sit down.
Isabella nodded and followed, sitting down as well.
Seeing that there were four pairs of chopsticks on the table, Evelyn said, “Don’t wait for Ethan. He hasn’t come back yet.”
“He went out with his classmates tonight. He won’t be back for dinner. We don’t have to wait for him.” Isabella said softly.
Evelyn was about to say something, then why put out four sets of chopsticks?
Her hand was held by Alexander. Evelyn turned her head and looked at him. He looked back at her but didn’t say anything.
But just from that one glance, Evelyn realized the extra chopsticks were prepared for Alexander’s eldest brother.
She had almost said the wrong thing just now.
“Try it and see if it’s to your taste.” Isabella greeted Alexander and Evelyn.
Then she turned to the empty seat beside her and said, “Ah, let’s eat.”
Evelyn couldn’t help but shiver. Alexander patted her hand under the table and said, “Try my sister-in-law’s cooking.”
Evelyn nodded for a long time, then picked up her chopsticks and took a bite of the nearest dish.
After that, Evelyn relaxed a lot. Her sister-in-law’s cooking skills were comparable to the most delicious food. It was enough to make her forget the tension and uneasiness from just now.
The hot and sour beef, although spicy, was truly delicious. Much better than her own cooking.
The sweet and sour pork was perfectly balanced. The eggplant pot was also fragrant, hot, and delicious. It made her mouth water.
In this way, Evelyn not only ate two bowls of rice but also ate a lot of the dishes, practically clearing the table.
When she was almost done, Evelyn raised her head. She met her sister-in-law’s gentle gaze. Then she looked at her own eating posture from before and suddenly felt embarrassed.
She said to Isabella, embarrassed, “Sister-in-law, your cooking is too delicious!”
“I’m glad you like it. Eat more.”
“Sister-in-law, you should eat more too. The food isn’t as good when it’s cold!” Evelyn put some dishes into her sister-in-law’s bowl. Then she remembered she should have used the serving chopsticks. She felt even more embarrassed.
Isabella didn’t mind. She held up her bowl and ate the dish Evelyn had helped her to. Her eyes were a little red.
It had been a long time since she had been this happy.
After dinner, Evelyn wanted to help her sister-in-law clean up. Isabella said no, that Harper would clean up.
Evelyn didn’t insist any further.
“Sister-in-law, Evie and I will go back first. You should get some rest early.”
“The road is slippery on a rainy day. Go back slowly.” Isabella nodded and said.
“Thank you, sister-in-law. We’ll go back now.” Evelyn waved her hand and said with a smile.
Then she followed Alexander. Each of them held an umbrella as they left Rose Garden Villa.
Evelyn and Alexander walked back and forth.
Evelyn walked slowly because she was too full.
“Alexander, my sister-in-law’s cooking is really good!” As she walked, Evelyn turned around and said.
“In the past, my sister-in-law was in charge of the meals at home.” Alexander responded.
“Oh.” Evelyn answered for a long time, then asked, “Will I be in charge of that later?”
“Can you?”
“I’m afraid I can’t do it well.”
“Then don’t worry about it. The cook will handle it.”
“Oh.” Evelyn answered again, then asked curiously, “Alexander, why does my sister-in-law always confuse you with Ethan?”
“In the past, Ethan always liked to stick to me and play with me. When two people spend a lot of time together, it’s easy to get them confused.”
Evelyn nodded in empathy. She had liked to stick to her sister Victoria since she was a child.
“Alexander—”
“Are you a curious baby?” Alexander asked directly.
Evelyn immediately laughed. “No, it’s just that I have so many questions today!”
Alexander looked at Evelyn and shook his head with a smile. “Do you think I’m a walking encyclopedia?”
“Anyway, every time I ask you something, you can answer it. It’s almost like you are one.” Evelyn said with a smile.
The two of them were originally walking one in front of the other. Later, they started walking side by side. But in the end, Alexander was walking with an umbrella in one hand and his arm around Evelyn’s shoulder.
The umbrella in Evelyn’s hand was tilted to one side. It had basically become a decoration.
