A girl once stood in this exact spot. She told him she loved this view the most.
Sterling Manor was already built. Standing on the second floor, you could push open the window and see the scenery. Her mood would follow the sunshine all day.
The truth was, they had broken up before Sterling Manor was even finished.
Now Evie said the same thing to him. It felt so familiar.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" "Don't you like it here?" Evie felt a little embarrassed under Alexander's gaze. She looked away and asked.
"If I didn't like it, I wouldn't have built Sterling Manor here." Alexander looked into the distance and answered with a smile.
"You haven't answered my question yet!"
"What?"
"Why did you build Sterling Manor here?"
"Didn't you just answer for me?" Alexander asked with a smile.
"Where?" Evie looked at him curiously.
"You said this side has the best view." Alexander finished speaking and looked down at Evie.
"Because of that!"
"That's a convincing enough reason."
"So that's it." Evie nodded.
"The rain is getting heavier. Close the window." Alexander said to Evie.
"Okay!" Evie nodded. But she still felt something was missing.
The rain was really getting worse. Drops were hitting the window frame.
Alexander got up and closed the window.
Evie withdrew her gaze. She turned her head. Her lips accidentally brushed against Alexander's. She suddenly froze.
The next second, she lifted her eyes uneasily to look at him.
Alexander reached out and touched her lips. Evie lowered her brows and eyes. Her face gradually turned red.
A low laugh rang in her ears. Alexander lowered his head and kissed her lips. His strength was gentle.
Evie couldn't hear the patter of rain outside the window anymore. She could only hear their intertwined breathing.
Evie was a girl who was easy to satisfy. Even a mousse cake was enough to buy her off. Right now, she was sitting at the tea table. She held a plate with mango mousse and ate it with a small spoon. Her brows and eyes were full of happy smiles.
"Give me a bite!" Even Alexander, who didn't like sweets very much, wanted to taste it when he saw how she ate.
"There are no forks!" Evie said awkwardly.
"Use yours!"
"Oh." Evie forked a piece and stretched it to Alexander's mouth.
Alexander swallowed it and muttered, "Nothing special."
"Don't you think it's delicious?"
"No!"
"No luck!" Evie curled her lips and continued eating her own.
"Maybe it's not the right way to taste it."
"Ah?" Evie turned her head and looked at him.
Alexander kissed her lips. After a while, he finally released her and said with a smile, "It's so delicious!"
"Flow—" Evie just blurted out a word. It was blocked by Alexander.
After he released her, he warned, "If I hear that again in the future—"
"Just kiss me once?" Evie naturally took the second half of the sentence.
Alexander was stunned for a moment. The next second, he looked at Evie and smiled.
Evie just realized what she had said.
What she wanted to say was, "What's going to happen?"
But that sentence just popped out of her mouth.
"Ah! Ah! I didn't say that!" Evie was too embarrassed to answer. She carried the plate, lowered her head, and continued eating her cake. She was hiding the awkwardness in her heart. She wanted to die!
"Consider adopting it, if it works!" Alexander answered with a smile.
"I don't know what you're talking about!" Evie pretended to be confused and mumbled. She finished the last bite of cake.
She had nothing more to eat. She had to put down the plate. She looked for a book to read.
After a while, Evie took the book and asked, "When do you go to work?"
"Just a few days after I got married. Do you think I'm bored?"
"No, it's just that you are so busy at ordinary times. Can you take so many days off this time?"
"I'm at work now, aren't I?" Alexander took the information and asked with a smile.
"Isn't it more convenient to go to work in the company?"
"Or do you want to work overtime with me?"
"No!" Evie immediately shook her head and refused.
She just thought it was embarrassing for them to look at each other like this. So she wanted to ask him when he would start work.
If she followed him to work in the company, she might as well stay in Sterling Manor!
At least now she could read. And when she was sleepy, she could sleep.
In the afternoon, Chloe came to ask her to go to the main house. Because she had to go back tomorrow. She had prepared some things for Evie to see if there was anything else to add.
Where did Evie know these things? She didn't even know what she needed to prepare when she went back to her mother's home!
But Chloe came. So she had to follow Chloe to the main house.
The rain in the afternoon was still pattering. The stone path was wet. But it didn't affect Evie's mood.
Having seen the things prepared by the Sterling family, the housekeeper introduced them. Evie's first reaction was that the Sterling family was very generous.
As for the housekeeper asking her what else she needed to prepare, she intuitively shook her head. She said there was already a lot. There was no need to prepare anything extra.
Later, she sat with Mrs. Sterling for a while. Then she went back to Sterling Manor.
Mrs. Sterling asked her where she didn't want to go on her honeymoon trip. Did she just want to live in a small village for a few days?
Evie said that Alexander was usually very busy. Going out to play would make him tired. Let him take this opportunity to rest. Stay in a place with beautiful scenery and fresh air for a few days.
Mrs. Sterling nodded happily. She was obviously satisfied with the performance of her new daughter-in-law.
Later, she didn't stay much. Chloe sent her back to Sterling Manor.
Evie said she would just go back herself. To save Chloe from running back and forth.
Mrs. Sterling nodded with a smile. She didn't insist.
Evie came out of the main house with an umbrella. She walked back along the path paved with stones.
"Evie—"
Evie stopped. She turned around and saw her sister-in-law, Isabella.
"Sister-in-law!" Evie suddenly showed a smile. She walked toward Isabella.
"I haven't seen you these days. Are you nervous about your studies?" Isabella looked at Evie and asked in a soft voice.
Evie was about to say that she had already had winter vacation. Later, she thought that her sister-in-law was not in a good spirit. She always forgot things. So she didn't go out of her way to correct her. She just said with a smile, "No hurry. Sister-in-law, how can you stand here by yourself? It's raining."
"It's okay. I'm waiting for Ethan to come back!"
"Sister-in-law, Ethan is such a big man. He won't get lost. Let me accompany you back to Rose Garden Villa."
"He got lost once when he was a child. I always worried that he wouldn't find his way home!" Isabella murmured. But she still followed Evie and turned around. She walked toward the direction of Rose Garden Villa.
"That was a matter of childhood. Ethan is an adult now. He won't get lost!"
"Yes, I forgot you were married!" Isabella showed a gratified smile at this time.
Evie was embarrassed.
She was married, yes. But not with Ethan Sterling. She was married to Ethan's little uncle, Alexander Sterling!
Her sister-in-law said that. The relationship was a bit chaotic!
