"Do you think I'm being unreasonable?" Evelyn asked.
"Not at all. But there will always be exceptions," Alexander replied with a dry tone.
"There won't be any exceptions. I want my wife to be obedient." Alexander stared directly at Evelyn.
"Then I'll object to any unreasonable demands," Evelyn muttered.
"You can add a clause at the end. Unreasonable requests can be refused."
"Fine." Evelyn nodded and agreed immediately.
She redrew the agreement, printed it out, and signed it. They each kept a copy.
Evelyn looked it over like a child. After reading it, she carefully folded her copy and put it away.
As she walked out of the bedroom, a sudden thought hit her.
How exactly do you define what's unreasonable and what's reasonable?
Maybe what she thought was unreasonable, Alexander thought was reasonable?
The more she thought about it, the more she felt it was a hidden trap. So she went into Alexander's study to discuss it with him.
"It's simple. Whoever convinces the other at the time is the reasonable one. Problem solved." Alexander raised his eyes to look at her.
"But you're so good with words. How can I ever beat you?"
"Really? I feel like I'm the one who's always speechless around you." Alexander looked at Evelyn with a smile.
"That means what I say is reasonable!"
"Exactly. That settles it."
"Oh." Evelyn answered after a long pause.
She felt something was off. But it also felt like exactly what Alexander had said.
Oh well. Whatever happens, the boat will go straight to the bridge.
Besides, there was Mrs. Sterling!
That was her mother-in-law!
She could always go to Mrs. Sterling to complain!
Later, Evelyn would meet an even more rogue-like side of Alexander. Only then would she realize she had thought things too simply.
Many things between a husband and wife couldn't be shared with others. Let alone going to complain to her mother-in-law!
It was like eating bitter herbs. There was no way to say it out loud.
Of course, that was a story for later.
Right now, Evelyn was still happy about signing the agreement. She also felt relieved.
When she went to the main house for dinner that evening, Evelyn hesitated. Remembering the misunderstanding from the morning, she quickly reminded Alexander, "Remember to explain that matter to your mother tonight!"
"What matter?" Alexander asked.
"The thing about me being pregnant!" Evelyn stomped her foot in frustration.
After saying that, her face turned bright red.
"We can't do that. Let's just take things seriously."
"What do you mean?" Evelyn looked at Alexander, puzzled.
"You're not pregnant yet, are you? Let's work harder. Maybe you'll have it this month." Alexander said.
"..." Evelyn was stunned at first. Her mouth formed an O shape. It took her a long time to react. She blurted out, "You pervert!"
Then she ignored Alexander and walked ahead by herself.
Sure enough, during dinner, Mrs. Sterling kept smiling and looking at Evelyn.
Isabelle and Lillian also chimed in from time to time, telling Evelyn not to be picky with her food.
Bella didn't say anything. But sometimes she would look up at Evelyn, a worried expression on her face.
Evelyn could only nod her head in embarrassment. She couldn't just say, "I'm not pregnant!"
After all, everyone was just telling her to eat more and not be picky. No one had actually said she was pregnant. If she suddenly said something, it would be very strange and abrupt.
She could only ask for help. She kept glancing at Alexander from time to time.
Alexander was his usual charming self. He picked vegetables for her, removed fish bones, and told her to eat slowly.
Evelyn finally couldn't help it. She gave Alexander a sad stare.
Alexander put down his chopsticks. "Mom, Evelyn isn't picky. She has a good appetite. You don't have to worry about her. Besides, she's not an outsider now. If you keep fussing over her like this, she won't get used to it."
"Alright, alright. Evelyn, just eat whatever you like." Mrs. Sterling nodded with a smile.
"Mom, I won't be polite. I'll help myself." Evelyn said, as if she had been granted amnesty.
Just as Evelyn was about to reach for the soup, Lillian blurted out, "Pregnant women can't eat goji berries!"
Evelyn's spoon froze in mid-air. But Alexander said with a smile, "Third sister, you're preparing for a rainy day. When Evelyn has it, that's when we'll need to avoid certain foods."
"Isn't she already pregnant?" Lillian looked at her fourth brother and asked.
"Who said Evelyn was pregnant?" Alexander asked with a smile.
"Evelyn, aren't you pregnant? What about this morning?" Isabelle looked at Evelyn and asked.
Evelyn shook her head, her face red. She explained awkwardly, "I was just a bit uncomfortable this morning. I'm not pregnant!"
"It's okay, it's okay. It's not now, but it will be soon." Isabelle said.
Evelyn awkwardly nodded her head. The next second, she felt something was wrong. She had nodded instead of shaking her head.
"If there are any good news in the future, we'll inform you all immediately. Thank you for your concern for Evelyn." Alexander continued, holding Evelyn's shoulder. He finally looked down at her and added, "Evelyn, we should work harder. Don't let everyone down!"
Evelyn suddenly felt a surge of embarrassment. Ashamed and flustered, she directly pretended not to hear. She kept her head down, her ears bright red.
This Alexander was really something. No one could control him when he got like this.
And in everyone else's eyes, it looked like Evelyn was just shy.
Fortunately, the rest of the dinner was mostly quiet. No one said anything else. Evelyn was able to finish her meal safely.
Otherwise, if they kept talking about this topic, she would probably collapse without finishing dinner.
After dinner, Alexander took Evelyn for a walk. They passed through the garden.
Evelyn originally wanted to complain to Alexander. But he didn't look very well, so she didn't say anything.
This season, there weren't many ornamental plants and flowers in the garden. Only the evergreens and orange trees were lush.
As they walked, Evelyn couldn't help but secretly glance at Alexander. "What's wrong?" Alexander looked down at her and asked.
"You seem to be in a bad mood."
"Is that so?" Alexander didn't deny it. He just asked lightly.
"Actually, when you're in a bad mood, it's more uncomfortable to keep it bottled up inside. You can find something to adjust. Like exercise, listening to music, and so on." Evelyn suggested.
"Or we could eat?" Alexander asked.
"Yes, I can also eat. When I'm in a bad mood, I often eat!" Evelyn answered. The next second, she realized what Alexander meant. She felt embarrassed. "I mean, eating can also adjust your mood!"
"I understand. I'm going to do that now."
"Are you really in a bad mood?" Evelyn asked.
"What do you think?"
"Is it because of me?" Evelyn asked after a long hesitation.
"It has nothing to do with you! I'm not in a bad mood!" Alexander said faintly.
"Oh." Evelyn answered after a long pause. She thought about how Alexander was always so contradictory.
