"We've been living together for a while now," Alexander said. "We shouldn't be strangers."
"Back when we registered, we were still strangers, weren't we?" Evie pouted.
"So you agreed to register in the first place because you thought I was gay and could help your family through their financial crisis?"
"Can I nod?" Evie asked awkwardly.
"Just tell me the truth."
"Yes," Evie admitted. She stretched her hands out in front of Alexander. "Can you untie me now?"
"I didn't tie the knot. You can tear it off yourself."
"Huh?" Evie stared at her hands in shock. It really was just a loose knot.
With one finger, the ribbon came undone.
Evie breathed a sigh of relief.
Right then, Alexander turned off the light.
"What are you doing?" Evie tensed up again.
"Sleeping. Or do you want to keep playing SM?"
Evie's face flushed. She glared at Alexander in the darkness.
Well, the lights were off. He couldn't see her anyway.
"Go to sleep. We have to get up early tomorrow," Alexander said, pulling the blanket over them.
Evie felt like her brain was broken. She couldn't understand Alexander's behavior at all.
She stayed alert all night, but eventually, exhaustion won. She fell asleep.
Early the next morning, Evie jolted awake.
She turned her head and saw Alexander still fast asleep.
Nothing had happened last night. It had just scared her to death.
Right now, Alexander's eyes and brows were soft in sleep. He didn't have that fierce look from last night. He looked like a child.
Evie let out a faint sigh of relief. She turned over, but the next second, Alexander pulled her into his arms.
Evie yelped. The next moment, she heard Alexander ask, "Do you still think I'm gay now?"
"I don't know," Evie replied stiffly.
Why wasn't the plot developing normally?
"Are you bisexual?" Evie suddenly thought of this and asked in surprise.
There was no sound behind her. Evie felt like she had said something wrong. She buried her face in the pillow.
Alexander sighed. "It seems we need to have a proper talk."
"About whether your husband is gay or bisexual."
Evie's mind automatically conjured up the image of Alexander lifting her up and throwing her on the bed last night after she had asked, "You're not gay?"
She couldn't help shivering.
"I haven't slept enough. I want to keep sleeping. I can't hear what you're saying."
Evie said hurriedly, then pulled the blanket up higher. She almost buried herself completely.
Alexander looked at Evie's actions with a mix of tears and laughter. He didn't push it. After all, this wasn't a good time for a serious talk.
"Sleep a little longer then."
After that, he hugged Evie and went back to sleep.
Evie was very nervous at first. Her body was so stiff she almost cramped up. Eventually, she drifted off in a daze.
She didn't know how long she had slept. She just felt the glare in front of her eyes. She wanted to turn over and keep sleeping. The next second, her eyes snapped open. The scene printed itself into her mind. Suddenly, Evie remembered where she was. At the same time, the image of her with Alexander last night came flooding back.
Evie couldn't help but want to cry. She buried her face in the blanket.
Just then, someone sat down by the bed and pulled at the blanket. Evie quickly held it tighter.
"Don't you want to get up yet?" Alexander asked with a low laugh.
"I can't get up," Evie said in a muffled voice. She felt like she could barely breathe. At the same time, her cheeks were burning red.
"Get up. We have to go to the main house in the morning. You can come back and sleep later," Alexander coaxed Evie like a child.
As soon as Evie heard she had to go to the main house, she didn't dare to stay in bed any longer. She just said, "Then you get up first."
"I've already washed up. I'll wait for you."
"Oh." Evie couldn't stay in bed any longer. She had to pull down the blanket and sit up.
Then she felt a little uncomfortable under the blanket. She pulled down her nightgown. She decided she would never wear a nightgown to sleep again.
Last night, she had been wearing pajamas. But then—
Evie suddenly cut off the image in her mind. She said in a low voice, "I'm going to brush my teeth and wash my face."
Then she climbed down from the other end of the bed and walked forward.
She soon realized that was the door. She felt suddenly depressed. She had to turn around and go the other way.
She didn't have the courage to look up at Alexander. When she went into the bathroom to wash, Evie brushed her teeth and couldn't help thinking about last night.
Her face suddenly turned red again. She shook her head to clear the image from her mind.
After washing, she changed her clothes in the dressing room and came out with her head down.
"Let's go."
Alexander finished speaking and walked out of the bedroom.
Evie followed Alexander out of Sterling Manor.
The weather was very good today. The sun was shining brightly. It felt warm on her skin.
She took Alexander's arm and said excitedly, "Alexander, look how big the sun is today!"
"Is the sun usually too small?" Alexander looked down at her and asked.
Evie pouted. She felt Alexander was too unromantic. "I mean, the sunshine is brilliant today."
"Just like your smile," Alexander replied.
Evie immediately felt happy. "You know what? People say that if it rains on your wedding day, it means the couple won't be good at being human. If the weather is good, it means they're very good at being human and are very popular."
"Being good at being human has nothing to do with the weather. It only has to do with emotional intelligence and character. It's enough that our family has one person who can be good at being human," Alexander answered. He pulled Evie toward the main house.
As she followed Alexander, Evie thought about his words: "It's enough that our family has one person who can be good at being human."
Did that mean he could be good at being human? Or did it mean her?
Oh, maybe it meant Mrs. Sterling could be good at being human.
It meant she couldn't. She shouldn't overthink it.
On the way, Evie suddenly remembered Chloe's instructions. She let out a cry.
Alexander stopped and turned to Evie with a slight frown.
Evie explained anxiously, "I forgot. Chloe told me I had to prepare breakfast at home today. It's over. What should I do? I slept until this time."
"It's just a formality. Don't be nervous. The cook has already prepared breakfast. You just need to take it to the table, set up the dishes, and tell everyone to eat," Alexander soothed.
"Isn't that cheating?" Evie blurted out.
Alexander looked at Evie. His head started to ache. "Do you want to cook it yourself?"
"I'll cook it tomorrow morning," Evie thought for a long time and said.
The cook had already done it. It would be a waste if she cooked it again. Besides, it was already time to prepare. When would they be able to have breakfast?
When they arrived at the main house, Evie had to offer tea to the elders one by one.
Evie understood why Alexander hadn't known she was supposed to prepare breakfast and hadn't woken her up early.
The elders of the Sterling family were waiting for her to offer tea.
Starting with Mrs. Sterling, Evie brought tea one by one and changed how she addressed them. At the same time, she collected a lot of red envelopes for the change of address fee. It was a kind of extra income.
It really was a kind of extra income.
