"You have no shame, no boundaries, and you're breaking our contract." He said it lazily, watching Emma's furious expression—it was actually kind of cute.
"Boundaries... well, I won't argue about that. But where exactly did I break the contract?" Emma asked, her face full of defiance.
"Clause two of the contract: no physical relationship between the two parties. Did you forget that, wife?"
Emma froze.
"It was just a kiss. How is that a physical relationship? Liam, can you not read?"
"Is that so hard to understand?"
"Oh. So kissing isn't a breach of contract?" Liam seized on her words. "Then I can kiss you whenever I want from now on, my dear wife? And hugging doesn't count either, right? So tell me, what exactly constitutes a physical relationship?"
A wicked smile spread across his face. Emma wanted nothing more than to punch him and teach him some manners.
"It's... sleeping together!" Emma choked out those three words, took a deep breath to calm herself, then continued, "You're ruthless, Liam Williams. I have nothing more to say. But you have to compensate me with wontons, or I'll ignore you..."
"What?" He'd been joking, but when Liam heard her say that, something darkened in his eyes. The smile vanished, replaced by a fierce glare that pinned her in place.
Emma felt her scalp tingle.
"...An hour," she added timidly.
That's more like it. Liam nodded with satisfaction.
"Then I'll go..." Emma turned around, her face full of defeat.
"I still have two wontons left. Want them?"
Damn it, she wasn't falling for that again!
"No, goodbye!" She didn't look back, taking a step forward, but his voice followed her, "What a shame. I saved them especially for you."
"You scheming..." Before she could finish the word, Emma turned around and saw the wontons in his bowl.
"You didn't have those just now! How is that possible?" Emma seemed to have forgotten her earlier humiliation, her eyes lighting up. "Liam, can you do magic? Did you hide them in your sleeve?"
Liam stared at her.
He'd never seen a magician so absent-minded as to hide greasy wontons in his sleeve.
"Eat your wontons. Won't they shut you up?"
Emma quickly grabbed the paper bowl and finished them in two bites.
"So delicious. I knew I should have bought more..." Her round face was full of satisfaction, as if she were lost in the taste.
"Getting that intoxicated over my leftovers? And you say you don't love me?" Liam said lightly. Though his face was expressionless, he was secretly pleased.
"Less narcissism. I think the doorman at your company is more agreeable than you." Emma said it casually.
Liam's face darkened. How dare she compare him to a doorman?
She really didn't know her place!
He sighed softly.
"Well, wife, why don't you head back first? I'll be here for another two hours." Liam grabbed a paper towel to clean the table, ready to get back to work. Couldn't she wait?
"Oh, I'll go first. Where's a good place to catch a taxi near your company? It's pretty late now, huh..." Emma realized her mistake as soon as the words left her mouth!
She'd just asked the president of the Pinnacle Corporation where to find a taxi!
Wasn't that ridiculous? Liam had luxury cars and limited-edition sports cars at his disposal.
She stuck out her tongue. "Never mind, I'll find one myself downstairs."
Liam's expression turned serious when he heard that. "Didn't I ask the driver to take you home when you went out? It's late, and you're a young woman. How can I feel at ease letting you take a taxi? I'll call the butler and have a driver pick you up."
"Ah, no. It's too late, and people are working hard. Why don't I just wait for you to go home together..." Emma thought, there's nothing to do at home anyway. Might as well save the driver the trouble.
"Just stay on the sofa and don't disturb me."
Did Liam actually agree?
Emma made a zipping motion across her lips, then put down her bag and played with her phone on the sofa.
Half an hour later.
Emma's phone was about to die, and exhaustion was washing over her in waves. She glanced at Liam and saw him completely focused on the documents in his hands. His profile looked even more chiseled under the light. His white shirt had no wrinkles, and his long, elegant fingers rested casually on the table.
No wonder people said a man in concentration was the most handsome. Liam's appearance alone was enough to capture the hearts of thousands of girls.
Facing Liam, Emma leaned gently against the sofa, watching his figure in full bloom. She was a little mesmerized.
Liam was working hard with his head down, but he kept feeling a strange gaze on him. He looked up and saw the woman on the sofa opposite him, staring at him.
Was it really appropriate to look at a man so dreamily?
Didn't she know how to hide it?
Liam's eyes locked onto her. After a pause, Emma realized... Why was he staring at her?
What's wrong?
Then it hit her. She'd been caught staring first. Realizing her mistake, she lifted her head, gave a silly smile, bent her arm, and made a cheering gesture!
Immediately, Emma turned away and refused to look at him again.
Liam was stunned. This woman... was so weird!
An hour later, Emma had fallen asleep. No one was talking to her, her phone was dead, and she'd leaned against the sofa and drifted off.
Just then, Christopher knocked and entered with documents in hand. "Sir, the venue for the press conference has been confirmed. Please take a look. If it's acceptable, we can..." Before Christopher could finish, Liam put a finger to his lips, pointed to the sleeping figure on the sofa, and motioned for him to keep his voice down.
Christopher looked back and immediately understood. His voice dropped significantly. "Sir, please take a look first."
Liam glanced at the documents, said nothing, and nodded. "How's the work in the other departments?" Liam raised his hand and checked his watch. It was almost midnight.
"Almost done. The plans and layouts are basically complete, and the clothes have been checked. After two days, the models will have no problem with the fittings, and then they can rehearse." Christopher reported his work methodically.
