Chapter 58

Christopher took this chance to get Isabella under control.

Liam couldn't care less about the gash on his hand. He rushed over to Emma and looked her over carefully. "Are you okay? Did she scare you?"

Emma stared at him. "..." Did he really think she was that fragile?

He was the one bleeding like a faucet without even flinching.

Her heart ached so much that tears threatened to spill. It was the first time she'd seen that much blood.

Ava was quick on her feet. She found a roll of clean gauze and handed it to Emma. "Chief Editor, you need to stop the bleeding."

Emma took the gauze and carefully began wrapping his wound.

Seeing her pale face, Liam thought she was frightened. He reached out and gently ruffled her hair. "It's okay. Your husband is here."

The moment he said that, the tears she'd been holding back finally broke free. She raised her hand and slammed it against his solid chest. "Liam Williams, do you have a death wish?"

Why was he so reckless?

She saw Isabella holding a knife, and he still charged in without a second thought!

He didn't realize that in that split second, Emma's heart had nearly stopped from fear.

So that punch was filled with nothing but worry.

Liam was slow to catch the meaning behind her outburst.

Thinking she was just shaken by Isabella's attack, he gently pulled her into his arms and pressed a kiss to her forehead. Then his gaze turned icy as he looked at Isabella, wishing he could tear her apart. His voice was low and dangerous. "Christopher, call 911 right now. Let the police handle this."

"Yes, sir."

Christopher had just pulled out his phone when Emma stopped him. "Forget it. No matter what, she's still my cousin..."

She pulled away from Liam's arms, picked up a glass of water from the table, and threw it in Isabella's face. Her voice was firm. "Isabella Miller, I don't think you're awake enough yet. If you ever try to hurt me or anyone close to me again, I won't hesitate to cut all ties with you."

"Ava, have security escort this woman out."

Emma still decided to let her go. She knew that no matter the reason, a trip to the police station would leave a permanent stain on a girl's record.

No matter how much she hated this person, she wouldn't be cruel enough to ruin her life.

The colleagues around them, seeing the drama was over, let out sighs and went back to work.

Ava quietly winked at Emma before turning to leave.

Emma looked at the mess on the floor and the door where Isabella had been lying.

She turned to Liam. "Why are you here?"

There was a hint of blame in her tone, but her voice was soft.

"I came to have dinner with you. I brought food." Liam raised his hand and signaled Christopher to open the containers.

How could she eat after everything that just happened?

Her stomach churned, and she wanted to snap at him, but then she remembered his injured hand and held back.

"Forget it. We'll eat later. Let's go to the hospital first and get your hand checked. What if the tendons are damaged?" Emma grabbed her bag and naturally took Liam's hand, leading him out.

Liam looked down at her fingers intertwined with his, and a ripple of warmth spread through his chest.

He turned back to Christopher. "Stay here and clean up. I'll be back later."

"Yes, sir." Christopher's favorite line was always this one.

Yes, sir. Understood, sir.

Emma glanced back at Liam's gloomy face, only to find a mischievous smile curling at the corner of his mouth.

Luckily, right across from the New York Fashion Magazine office was the largest city hospital in the city.

Normal people had to register, wait in line, and so on.

But Liam was different. The moment he walked into the hospital, the receptionist looked up, recognized him, and immediately stood up respectfully. "Hello, Mr. Williams. Which department do you need?"

Liam raised his right hand and waved at her. She quickly got up and led them straight to the VIP surgical ward.

"Dr. Jones, Mr. Williams is here. Please take a look at his wound." The receptionist told the doctor sitting inside, then nodded at them and left.

Dr. Jones, a male doctor, was clearly familiar with Liam. He stood up, pulled out a chair, and joked, "What happened this time? Every time I see your hand, I feel sorry for it. Why is it always your right hand, Liam?"

"How should I know? The right hand gets more use." Liam joked back.

Emma pulled up a stool and sat beside him.

Despite his casual tone, Dr. Jones carefully unwrapped the gauze and skillfully disinfected the wound. "Get an X-ray. If you keep messing around like this, your hand will be ruined."

Ruined?

Emma's heart skipped a beat. Was the injury that serious? Why else would the doctor say that?

"Dr. Jones, what's wrong with his hand? Is it serious?" Emma asked anxiously. Sure, there was a lot of blood, but would it really be ruined? Why was it so bad?

Liam looked up at Dr. Jones, a slight smile on his lips.

She was really worried about his injury?

Seeing Liam's expression, Dr. Jones immediately knew what to say. They'd known each other for years.

"I can't say for sure until we see the X-ray." Dr. Jones said mysteriously.

With that, they went to the next room, leaving a worried Emma behind.

Oh no. Liam was stabbed with a knife, and there was so much blood... The more she thought about it, the more anxious she became.

A few minutes later, they came out laughing and talking. Dr. Jones was holding a fresh X-ray film.

Emma stood up nervously. "Dr. Jones, how is it? Does he need to be hospitalized?"

Hearing that, Liam couldn't help but feel amused. This girl was really naive.

Dr. Jones patted Emma on the shoulder and said calmly, "Don't worry. Come, sit down. Let me explain slowly. Do you see here? One of his fingers is different from the others."

Emma's eyes widened. Huh?

It was true. Liam's ring finger was more curved than the others, and it looked like it had been broken.

"His ring finger was broken before. I fixed it with a steel plate and reconnected it." After keeping it from her for so long, Dr. Jones finally decided to tell the truth.

"What do you mean, 'broken before'? Liam was injured today, doctor..." Emma was completely confused.

"Well, three years ago, his hand was injured. I was his doctor."

"Three years ago?" Emma looked at Liam strangely.

He spread his hands and made the most innocent expression in history.

"Well, that's the gist of it. So I suggest you take good care of him, or his hand will be ruined sooner or later." Dr. Jones said bluntly. He couldn't help but glance at Liam.

If Liam had cooperated with the treatment, he would have been much better by now.

But he'd only come twice and then stopped!
