Emma could finally eat solid food now.
A few days later, Sophia went shopping with her neighbors. Meanwhile, Amelia was at the mall at that very moment. She was there to pick out a new set of tableware for her coffee shop, planning to change up the style.
Watching Sophia chat and laugh with her companion, she looked so kind and gentle. Amelia couldn't help but feel puzzled. Emma and her brother were getting a divorce. How could Emma's mother be in such a good mood instead?
She didn't know?
That was the only reason Amelia could think of. Otherwise, why would an elderly woman be in the mood to go shopping?
Amelia thought about it, a flicker of calculation in her eyes. A smile curled at the corner of her mouth, and then she approached with a polite grin.
"What a coincidence, running into you here shopping, Aunt Sophia."
Sophia saw that the young woman standing before her was her son-in-law's sister. So she looked at her with a warm smile, nodded, and asked her a few casual questions.
Seeing Sophia's attitude, Amelia became more certain of her idea. If it wasn't because she didn't know, how could she be so happy to see her?
So Amelia made up her mind. A look of sadness spread across her face, and she said she had something important to tell Sophia. Sophia's intuition told her it might be serious. Although she didn't know what it was, she still asked her neighbor to go on ahead first, and then she stayed behind.
Once the neighbor had left, Amelia found a nearby café with Sophia and they sat down.
"What's the matter, dear? You can talk to your aunt."
At that moment, Sophia thought Amelia was going to talk about her own personal problems. After all, she was her daughter's sister-in-law, so she naturally had to care about it. In any case, they were still family.
"Auntie, you'd better advise my sister-in-law not to divorce my brother."
With these words, Amelia's beautiful eyes seemed to glisten with tears. Sophia was taken aback. Her daughter wanted a divorce from her son-in-law? Where did that come from?
"What's going on? The couple is fine. Why would they want a divorce?"
It wasn't that Sophia was biased toward her daughter, but she knew her daughter too well. Why would her daughter want a divorce from her son-in-law for no reason? At that moment, Sophia was thinking, was there some woman bothering her son-in-law, and that's why her daughter was so upset?
When she thought back to the scene when her daughter and son-in-law had come over a few days ago, she felt that what she was thinking was right. But then Amelia's next words hit her like a thunderbolt, and her mind went blank for a long time.
Amelia said that the reason her son-in-law married her daughter was because her daughter was suspected of being involved with Elijah Clark, an international criminal organization. So he planned to marry her to see if he could get clues from her. Later, Elijah fled abroad because he was found guilty, and her daughter was also held at the police station for two days. She was finally released after being confirmed innocent. But how could a daughter who knew the truth continue to be husband and wife with her son-in-law? So she immediately filed for divorce and didn't intend to continue the marriage.
Sophia was truly confused. She clearly heard that Elijah had to go abroad to open his own hospital, so he resigned. What's more, she had known him since he was a child. He was always quiet and clever. Even if he didn't come back for several years, he couldn't be involved with a criminal group.
It was for this reason that her son-in-law married her daughter. Sophia remembered that her son-in-law was a colonel in the army before he became president. She heard from her daughter that he had to retire because he was injured and couldn't continue being a soldier. But in his heart, he still wanted to serve his country all the time.
Sophia knew that Amelia wouldn't lie to her, and there was no need to. Besides, when she saw her daughter's expression a few days ago, she thought it was because of what happened at the police station. Sophia's heart ached. Her daughter had suffered so much, and was even facing a huge change in her life. As a mother, she didn't know anything. She thought her daughter was just quarreling with her son-in-law.
She was really an unqualified mother.
Watching Sophia's face change constantly, until it turned pale, Amelia was secretly pleased.
Although Amelia pretended to be worried and on the verge of tears, she was smiling proudly inside. At this moment, even if her brother had been pushing for a divorce, it would be difficult now.
When Emma received her mother's call, she couldn't come back for a while. Her mother didn't give her a chance to speak at all. Instead, she said everything she knew, her voice clearly choked with tears.
Emma didn't expect her mother to find out what she was trying to hide in such a short time. For a moment, she didn't know how to comfort her mother in return.
She only remembered that after her mother finished, she asked a silly question.
"How do you know?"
Even as she asked, she was confused, but it was clear she had already admitted the truth of the matter.
"If I hadn't run into Amelia at the mall today, I'm afraid I would have been kept in the dark for a long time."
Emma realized.
Amelia must have said it for another purpose. Emma's heart was very complicated. On one hand, she resented Amelia for telling her mother about it so early, leaving her no time to deal with it. But on the other hand, her mother would support her now that she knew. That meant she had more confidence in the divorce. She knew her mother. Liam had used her so much. She would rather divorce than marry him again.
Sure enough, her mother's angry roar came the next moment.
"Divorce. Even if he were made of gold and silver, you will divorce. My daughter was raised with care, and no one can use her like this. It's too much."
Emma sighed and felt that with her mother's involvement, this marriage should end faster.
Sure enough, Sophia was very efficient. She didn't even bother to call Emma first. After all, her daughter was under attack now, and it was too late to heal. How could she let her see Liam again? That bastard would only cause more pain.
Sophia was filled with regret when she thought about how kind she had been to Liam not long ago.
If there were any regret medicine in the world, she would never have allowed her daughter to marry such a man with such a dark heart.
Sophia first called her daughter's best friend and asked about the whole situation carefully. Then she called Mr. Wang, the lawyer handling her daughter's divorce. After going to his law firm, she took a divorce contract and went straight to Liam's company.
