She stood on the porch, her mouth bulging as she struggled for a long time. Finally, she went back upstairs and returned to the bedroom to rest.
Liam Williams arrived at the police station, but he didn't see Captain David Reed. There was an incident in one of the cells, and the captain was busy dealing with it.
"What happened?"
Liam asked a police officer.
The officer recognized Liam immediately and answered honestly.
"The masked man we arrested at Crestwood International Airport this morning suddenly took poison and died. We didn't find the poison capsule he had hidden when we caught him. By the time we discovered it, he had already swallowed it. He bled from all seven orifices on the spot."
Liam's eyes darkened. He hadn't expected the man to die before they could interrogate him. This seemed to come from a well-trained, organized group. Otherwise, why would someone choose to sacrifice their life after being caught by the police? He wouldn't give up his life unless he worked for an organization he worshipped wholeheartedly.
Was this the end of the line?
A cold light flashed in Liam's eyes. He was deeply displeased.
"You're here. It's a pity we're too late. We're always one step behind."
Captain Reed came out of the holding area and saw Liam. He spoke regretfully.
"Yes. But it won't happen again."
Liam said calmly. Although he appeared composed, Captain Reed, who knew him well, could tell that Liam was already furious.
If he ever got another chance, he would never allow such a situation to occur again.
In the quiet villa, Elijah Clark's father was packing his luggage. When Elijah returned home, he looked a bit anxious when he saw his father.
"I saw the news today. The police have caught your assistant. Liam Williams is not a simple man. Once he gets his hands on someone, your assistant won't be able to keep any secrets. Father, I'm afraid you'll have to leave tonight. You can't wait until tomorrow to fly."
Elijah's eyes held a faint trace of worry.
His father remained calm.
"When did you watch the news?"
He asked Elijah.
"Before I got off work. I watched the replay of the news."
Elijah had been busy with an operation all day. When he finally finished and returned to his office, he happened to see the news. He rushed home immediately, and on the way, he had already arranged a safe escape route for his father. After all, his father's assistant had been caught, and the waterway they had planned to use yesterday was now blocked.
"No wonder. Don't worry about it. He should be a corpse in the police station by now."
His father's voice was cold, devoid of any emotion. Elijah was momentarily stunned, then understood.
"That's good. If you were exposed, it would be hard to leave the city smoothly."
Elijah said with a sigh of relief.
His father finished packing his suitcase, then stood up and looked at his son. A clear light shone in his eyes.
"I'm afraid that's not the only reason you're worried, is it?"
"Father, I don't understand what you mean."
"You're always worried about letting Emma know your true identity. You're afraid she won't be able to accept you. But don't forget, son. Once she becomes your woman, you can't hide it from her anymore. Otherwise, even if she becomes your wife, you won't last. At that time, I won't spare her life. Do you understand?"
His father smiled kindly, but there was a hidden knife behind the smile. A chill hung in the air.
When Elijah heard his father say this, he couldn't help but look down. Then he forced a smile.
"I understand."
He knew his father's words were true, not a joke.
But in his heart, he knew that telling Emma himself that he was actually a heinous villain would be incredibly difficult. His hands were stained with the blood of many people. He was never the man she thought he was. At that time, would Emma be willing to accept him?
Elijah really wasn't sure.
After two days of rest, the anesthetic in her body had completely worn off. Emma Johnson decided to go back to work at the company. At noon, Mia Lewis called her and asked her to have dinner at The Waterfront. Emma knew that Mia and Olivia were worried about her. They wouldn't be relieved until they saw with their own eyes that she was healthy. So she gladly accepted the invitation.
When they arrived at The Waterfront, they saw that Emma was safe and sound. They couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
"Well, it seems that marrying into a wealthy family isn't so easy. Look, Emma has only been a rich man's wife for a few months, and she's been in constant danger. Emma, I think you should ask your husband to hire ten or twenty bodyguards to protect you when you go out."
Olivia Davis said to Emma emotionally as they ate.
"I'm not a national leader. I don't need so many bodyguards to protect me. That's an exaggeration."
Emma said, feeling a bit speechless.
"How can this be an exaggeration? Think about it, your husband is worth hundreds of millions. He's one of the richest men in the country. His money could buy a small country. So as his wife, you'll naturally make many people jealous. Besides, those criminals can't make huge profits from Liam Williams. They'll definitely target you. So it's necessary to have bodyguards around you."
Olivia analyzed the situation for Emma. Mia also thought it made sense and nodded in agreement.
Emma thought it was useless to argue with them. She just let them talk casually while they ate.
"Manager, this is the latest monthly magazine. I bought it for you."
A waitress knocked on the door and came in, handing a thick magazine to Mia. When she left, she couldn't help but look at Emma, who was eating. With a look of envy in her eyes, she went out.
"Wow! Emma, you look so beautiful."
Mia's exclamation made Emma look up again. She saw herself and Liam on the cover. She hadn't expected that after a few days of shooting, the magazine had already come out. Their efficiency was amazing.
"Look at this one. It's so romantic. Emma, your husband must love you very much. Otherwise, he wouldn't look at you with such deep eyes."
Mia and Olivia looked through the magazine together and saw the picture of Emma about to fall down the stairs but being caught by Liam in time. The two women's eyes glowed with envy as they spoke. Emma heard Mia's words and went to look at the picture with a smile.
