Chapter 353

"Elijah only heard about my accident. He was worried, so he came to check on me."

Emma quickly explained, not wanting Liam to misunderstand. But her words were already enough to plant a seed of doubt.

"Is that so? Thank you so much for caring about my wife."

When Liam said the word "wife," he practically ground his teeth together.

Elijah looked at Liam with a faint smile, then suddenly turned his gaze to Emma.

"Emma, I need a word with him. Why don't you wait in the car?"

Emma's eyes widened. She was afraid Elijah wanted to start another fight with Liam.

"Just a few words, Emma."

As if reading the worry in her eyes, Elijah offered a slow, reassuring smile. There was a promise in his gaze.

"Emma, get in the car first."

Even Liam had spoken. Emma knew her presence here was pointless. She nodded reluctantly, looked at both of them, then turned and walked back to Liam's car.

"Say what you need to say."

Liam's deep eyes fixed on Elijah.

"Liam, you're holding onto something that was never meant to be yours. Sooner or later, Emma will come back to me. That's all I wanted to tell you."

Elijah's eyes held a dark glint as he spoke, his voice clear and deliberate.

"As long as I believe it, no one can take her from me. Try if you want. Just don't regret it."

"I won't."

Elijah stared at the proud, arrogant man before him, his own eyes refusing to back down.

...

"What did you talk about?"

After Elijah drove away, Liam got back in the car. Emma finally couldn't hold back her question.

"Nothing."

Liam didn't want to tell Emma about it. It was between him and Elijah.

Emma knew Liam probably wouldn't tell her. But her curiosity got the better of her. Now that he clearly didn't want to talk about it, she knew better than to push.

When they arrived at the company, Emma planned to continue working on the charity investment project for Oakhaven County.

Liam came over and closed the document in her hand.

"I said you could come to the office, but I didn't say you had to work today. Go lie down in the rest room and get some rest. I'll wake you for lunch."

Emma looked at Liam, knowing he was just worried about her. So she got up and went to the cubicle. The moment her head hit the pillow, she was fast asleep.

Christopher came to Liam's office and handed him an acquisition proposal.

"Here's the file on Summit Group."

Liam flipped through the documents, then closed them after a long moment.

"This acquisition is yours to handle. Remember, I want the lowest price possible."

"Don't worry, sir. Summit Group won't make a profit from this. No other company will buy them out. They have no choice but to accept our terms."

Satisfied with Christopher's assurance, Liam nodded.

Soon it was noon. Liam ordered lunch from a French restaurant and had it delivered to the office. That way, Emma could eat as soon as she woke up.

When the food arrived, Liam went to the inner room. Seeing Emma still fast asleep, he couldn't bear to wake her, but he also didn't want her to miss a meal.

So he leaned down and kissed her forehead and cheek, calling her name softly.

Emma opened her eyes groggily and saw Liam looking at her with such tender affection. His eyes held a hint of a doting smile. She thought to herself that this man was a monster. If they lived in ancient times, even a man like him would have the power to bring down a kingdom.

Being the wife of such a man meant she was destined to be the envy of countless women. It was a miracle she hadn't been cursed with a hole in her back from all the jealous stares.

...

"Your classmate's party invitation?"

Emma was sitting in Amelia's coffee shop. Amelia handed her the invitation.

"Sister-in-law, I want to go. But honestly, things aren't like they were in high school. And I still haven't gotten my memory back. I feel a bit uneasy. So, could you come with me? If you're there, I think I'll feel safer."

Amelia told Emma about running into her high school classmate, then pleaded for her help.

"They're your classmates. Nothing bad will happen. You don't need to be so nervous. Besides, she already knows about your amnesia. She'll understand." Emma didn't really want to go to a party full of Amelia's classmates. She never liked being in those kinds of situations. And she wouldn't know anyone there. It would be a waste of time.

"But sister-in-law, I really don't feel safe. Please?"

Amelia looked at Emma with those big, pitiful eyes, making her feel like a monster if she refused. In the end, Emma's soft heart won out.

"Fine. I'll go with you the day after tomorrow."

"Thank you, sister-in-law! I knew you were the best."

Amelia beamed at Emma. Emma figured that if it made Amelia happy, she could endure one boring evening. It was worth it.

On the evening of the third day, she accompanied Amelia to a villa where her classmates were holding a reception. Since they were Amelia's classmates, they were naturally from wealthy families. After all, Amelia had attended an elite private school since she was a child. Even if their family fortunes weren't as vast as the Williams family's, they could still afford a villa and run a company.

And this villa was just for the party. It wasn't their main residence.

It wasn't just Amelia's classmates who showed up. Some of them had also invited business associates. When a few female classmates spotted Amelia, they rushed over with smiles, linked arms with her, and led her to a sofa to chat. As Amelia left with them, she glanced back at Emma, who gave her a reassuring smile. It's fine. Relieved, Amelia followed the girls to another part of the room.

Emma looked around the living room. Someone recognized her. They hurried over to greet her politely, and Emma had to exchange pleasantries. After half an hour, she felt her face was stiff from smiling. She really couldn't handle these people who were so eager to network with her.
