Chapter 351

Before she went down, she thought she heard her aunt scream. Her mind went almost completely blank. The only thought that flashed through her head was that if she really was pregnant, the baby inside her could never be allowed to exist.

Even if it cost her own life, she would be willing.

When Emma Johnson regained consciousness, she could barely open her eyes. She saw Liam Williams sitting by her bedside, with Amelia White seemingly trying to persuade him. His worried gaze was fixed on him.

"Brother, you haven't eaten anything all day. Even if she wakes up, she wouldn't want to see you like this."

Amelia's persuasion was earnest.

"Don't bother trying to convince me."

Liam had been holding Emma's hand the entire time, refusing to let go. Suddenly, he felt her fingers twitch slightly. He looked up in surprise and saw Emma's eyes slowly opening.

"Emma, you're awake."

Liam's voice was a bit hoarse. Emma nodded. Amelia looked at her, a dark glint flickering in her eyes.

"The baby."

Emma seemed to suddenly remember something. She quickly reached out to touch her flat stomach, panic creeping into her voice.

"Baby? What baby?"

Liam was stunned by her words. He looked at her nervously and asked.

"The baby inside me."

Emma's eyes grew hot, and her breathing quickened with agitation.

"Emma, you're not pregnant. Where would a baby come from?"

Liam said to her.

Emma's face froze when she heard what he said.

"I'm not pregnant?"

She murmured, a flicker of disappointment inevitably crossing her eyes.

Liam understood immediately. He remembered the TV program she had watched the night before last. So that was it—she thought she was pregnant. A faint, warm smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.

Seeing her reaction, perhaps she wasn't opposed to having a child of his.

"Emma, you're not pregnant. If you were, the doctor would have told me."

Emma let out a soft sound, seeming listless. Maybe it was a false pregnancy reaction. She had heard that some women experienced such symptoms. But she never thought it would happen to her.

Even as she felt the loss, Emma also felt a sense of relief that she wasn't pregnant. Otherwise, if she had fallen from such a height, even with a safety air cushion, the baby inside her wouldn't have survived the impact. It would have been a miscarriage.

Thinking about it, she felt a little better.

Liam called the doctor to examine Emma again. Aside from a mild concussion, she was fine. She could be discharged that same day.

Liam went to handle the discharge paperwork, while Amelia stayed with her in the ward.

"Sister-in-law, you had us so worried. When I heard you jumped off the building, I was truly shocked."

Amelia's face showed a look of fear.

"It was an accident. I wanted to pull Isabella down, but I slipped and fell instead. It wasn't that dangerous. Have you seen Isabella? How is she now?"

Emma thought of Isabella Miller and asked.

"She's fine now. She's resting at home. She wanted to see you, but big brother wouldn't allow it."

Amelia said to Emma.

Liam was naturally angry. Even though Isabella hadn't intended for Emma to fall, she was the one who ended up hurt. Even if it was an accident, he wouldn't easily forgive her.

Naturally, Isabella wouldn't come to visit Emma.

Emma nodded and said nothing more. As long as Isabella was safe. In the afternoon, she returned to the apartment with Liam. Amelia wanted to stay and take care of Emma, but Liam wouldn't allow it. He only let her go back to keep their father, Henry Williams, company and report that Emma was fine.

Amelia was a little reluctant to leave, but her eyes kept lingering on Liam. Emma pretended not to notice.

"If you want to eat something, I'll go to the market and buy it for you."

Liam tucked the blanket around Emma and asked softly.

Emma remembered what Amelia had said to Liam when she woke up in the hospital.

"I want wonton noodles. Please send someone to that noodle shop. Will you join me?"

Liam nodded and ordered someone to buy two bowls of wonton noodles. After eating with Emma, she felt sleepy and drifted off on the bed.

When she woke up, she saw Liam was still in the room with her. A strange feeling stirred in her heart. She looked at Liam and slowly spoke.

"Liam, I thought I was pregnant with your baby."

"Yes."

Liam looked at Emma, waiting for her to continue.

A flicker of hesitation crossed Emma's heart, but she still made up her mind to say it.

"I think if I really did have a child, I would probably decide to take it away. It's not appropriate for us to have a child together."

Liam had thought she might say she still wanted a child. He never expected Emma to think this way.

"Is that how you really feel?"

The gentleness on Liam's face gradually faded. He looked at Emma and asked.

Although Emma felt uncomfortable, she nodded firmly. Deep down, she didn't truly believe it, but that was only under the premise of having a child. Since nothing had happened yet, she thought it was better to nip future problems in the bud. It was best to let Liam know she didn't want children—it would be better for both of them.

"Our engagement is only for one year. Even if we had a child, it would be doomed to never have a complete family."

"Why do you think our engagement has to be only one year?"

Liam looked into Emma's eyes and asked.

Emma was caught off guard by his question. She was stunned for a moment.

"I said from the beginning that if you didn't think it was suitable after one year, we could divorce. But what if it is suitable? Would you still want a divorce? Or is there someone else in your heart all along, someone you can't let go of?"

Liam asked, and Emma looked back at him.

"That's not what I meant."

Emma said to Liam.

"I don't care what you meant. Emma, if you really did have a child, I wouldn't allow you to take it away. Do you understand? Even if we divorce."
