After tending to the gash on his forehead, she took another look. Huh. It seemed the corner of his mouth was pretty banged up too.
After a few seconds of hesitation, Emma Johnson grabbed a fresh cotton swab, dipped it in a little rubbing alcohol, and slowly brought it to the corner of Liam Williams's mouth.
Her clear eyes darted a nervous glance at Liam, and her hand trembled slightly.
Liam just watched her quietly, saying nothing, not pulling away either.
At that moment, the entire office was dead silent. You could almost hear the heartbeat of the two people in the room.
Finally, in a state of high tension, she finished applying the medicine to Liam's wounds. She set down the things in her hand and then caught a glimpse of the wound on his lip—the one she had bitten yesterday. It still hadn't healed.
It looked like it was getting worse.
Emma felt a deep pang of guilt. Even though this man was usually fierce and overbearing with her, she had now unintentionally hurt him so many times.
Thinking about this, Emma involuntarily reached out her hand. Her index finger gently touched Liam's cold, thin lips. But then she realized how strange her behavior was. Just as she was about to pull her hand back, Liam caught it.
Their eyes met.
Emma stared at his handsome, sexy face, swallowed hard... and then, on impulse, she leaned in and quickly pecked him on the lips before pulling away just as fast.
The move was so swift that Liam didn't have time to react. He just tightened his grip on her finger.
She... had she actually kissed him?
The anger that had been simmering inside him was suddenly doused by that small, unexpected kiss.
Liam was stunned for a moment. Then, with a gentle tug, he pulled Emma's entire body into his arms.
He lifted her up, set her on his lap, and reached out to gently brush away the stray strands of hair that had fallen across her cheek. The corner of his mouth twitched, but he still didn't speak.
Emma's heart tightened. She whispered, "Liam, I'm sorry..." Before she could finish, her pink lips were sealed by his thin, cool ones.
This was the gentlest kiss they had shared since they met. His hands didn't wander like before. He just held Emma tightly.
This finally gave her anxious heart a sense of security.
Luckily, this time Liam didn't give in to his usual impulses. Otherwise, she would have been in big trouble.
Emma wanted to struggle and resist, but she hesitated for a moment, thinking of Liam's handsome face, now covered in scratches.
If she wasn't careful and bit his lip again, it would only make things worse.
So, five seconds after Liam's lips pressed down on hers, Emma gently closed her eyes. She didn't resist, but she didn't cooperate either.
She just slightly parted her lips and accepted Liam's lingering kiss.
Her hands involuntarily grasped the collar of his coat, letting Liam's tongue stir and explore inside her mouth.
Maybe this kind of kiss wasn't as bad as she had thought. Emma didn't feel too uncomfortable, but she was very nervous. She had been this close to Liam before, more than once or twice, but she still felt scared.
Liam saw all of this. Every time he kissed Emma, he kept his eyes open to see her reaction.
But today, this was...
Emma wasn't resisting?
Was it his imagination, or had she changed a lot?
Right in front of him was her blushing face, her cute nose, her bright eyes, and her soft lips.
His heart tightened. His warm hands slid through Emma's long hair, gently stroking her cheek.
After a long while, Liam realized that he hadn't been using much force this time, but Emma's breathing was starting to get heavy. He saw her frown.
He slowly let her go. After this lingering, long kiss, his mood was much better. But at this moment, his handsome, devilish face still held a trace of gloom. The gloom was so oppressive that Emma didn't dare to move. She could only obediently stay in his arms, blinking her small eyes, looking at him pitifully.
"Liam, I know I was wrong... I shouldn't have drunk last night. I shouldn't have gotten drunk. I shouldn't have hurt you..."
This silly woman. Did she actually think she had made the wounds on his face?
He was really worried about her intelligence.
She was too... flattering herself.
With her thin arms and legs, how could she have hurt him?
"Well, what else?" Instead of telling her the truth, Liam continued to ask with a cold face, pretending to be angry.
"And... this morning, I shouldn't have sneaked out and made you angry."
Alas, she really had done it to herself. She knew Liam had a fierce temper, yet she kept provoking him one after another.
What could she do now? She had to admit her mistakes and be ready to accept Liam's punishment.
"Every time you do this, you make me lose control. You have to let me catch you before you admit your mistake? Wife, three strikes and you're out. Don't you understand?" When Liam said these words, although his voice wasn't loud, it carried a kingly authority.
Emma quickly nodded, smiled, and gently pushed his hand away. She quickly changed the subject. "I'd better put a band-aid on you, or the wound might get infected."
She got up, took a cute cartoon band-aid from the table, and gently pasted it on his forehead. "Okay, all done. Liam, don't be angry, okay? I'll treat you to dinner tonight."
Then she reached out and gently tugged at the corner of his shirt, acting coy.
Without a word, Liam got up and walked to the door.
Was that his way of agreeing?
Did he have to be so proud? If he agreed, he agreed. There was no need to be so shameful about it.
Emma followed him to the door. Just as he was about to open it, she said, "Are you leaving just like that? Don't you want a cup of tea?"
As soon as she said it, she wanted to slap herself. Why didn't she just let this plague god leave early?
As God was her witness, Emma had really just said it casually, out of politeness.
But who knew, after hearing this, Liam suddenly stopped. He turned around, pulled Emma close, pressed her against the wall, and placed his two long hands on either side of her, trapping her in his arms. He joked, "What's the matter? Didn't you get enough to drink just now? Want some more tea?"
"No, no, no... I didn't mean that. I meant dinner together tonight. Don't be late."
Emma quickly explained, truly afraid that this man would do something special to her.
