"You'd better stay home. Your sister-in-law and I are going on a business trip, not a vacation. There won't be any time for you."
Liam Williams's tone was casual, but a flicker of hurt passed through Amelia White's eyes.
After dinner, Emma Johnson left with Liam. But Benjamin Williams noticed Xiaoyue's downcast expression and couldn't help speaking up.
"Xiaoyue, if you really want to go to Silverdale to see Emerald Lake, I'll have someone book tickets for this afternoon. I'll go with you."
Amelia wanted to refuse, but she couldn't bear to let such a perfect opportunity slip away. So she forced a cheerful expression onto her face, a sweet smile spreading across her lips.
"Thank you, second brother. I'll go upstairs and pack."
With that, Amelia set down her chopsticks, her appetite gone. Instead, she flew upstairs like a happy bird to get ready.
"Is Xiaoyue really fit to travel right now? I'm worried about her health," Henry Williams said anxiously to Benjamin. If it were Liam, he wouldn't have asked—after all, his eldest son was far more level-headed than his younger one.
"Don't worry, Father. Xiaoyue just lost her memory. Even though she's eighteen now, keeping her cooped up at home isn't good for her. It's better to take her out for a change of scenery. It might even help her recover."
Benjamin's words made the old man waver slightly, and he finally agreed.
The moment Emma stepped onto the plane, she collapsed into her seat and fell asleep immediately. She had been exhausted these past few days. Even though Liam had only visited her once last night, the fatigue from the previous days couldn't be erased in a single night.
Besides, now that she was traveling with Liam on business, she had to seize every chance to rest.
Instead of waking her, Liam called over a flight attendant and asked for a thin blanket for Emma.
The flight attendant was a young woman. It was her first time seeing such a handsome, high-caliber man like Liam Williams. She had seen this legendary CEO on TV news before, but seeing him in person, she realized he was even more striking in real life.
The flight attendant fell into a daze, completely smitten. Even though his wife was lying right beside him, it didn't stop the flight attendant from leaving her heart with Liam.
Watching Liam carefully tuck the blanket around the sleeping woman next to him, the flight attendant couldn't control her jealousy. She wondered how this woman had managed to marry him. After all, love among the upper class wasn't something ordinary people like her could even dream of.
But this woman named Emma Johnson was just an ordinary civilian too. Why could she have it all? To put it bluntly, wasn't it just a matter of opportunity?
So now that the opportunity had presented itself, how could she let it slip away?
Emma had been sleeping soundly, but a woman's voice kept drifting in and out, like a mosquito buzzing in her ear. It wasn't constant, but every time it appeared, it made her want to swat it dead.
At first, she thought she was dreaming. But when she opened her eyes groggily, she saw a beautiful flight attendant in a blue uniform pouring coffee for Liam.
"Mr. Williams, are you sure you only want coffee? It's almost noon. I think you should have a sandwich too, even though lunch is still over an hour away."
Watching the flight attendant gaze at Liam, Emma thought it would be strange if she wasn't captivated by his looks.
Emma folded the blanket and handed it back to the flight attendant.
"Mrs. Williams, you're awake," the flight attendant said politely, but without the same warmth she had shown Liam.
She didn't even bother to ask Emma if she wanted anything to drink or eat. Was this the professional standard a flight attendant should have? Emma was truly speechless.
Without a word, she took a sip of Liam's coffee and placed it back beside him under the flight attendant's stunned gaze.
"You actually drink such terrible coffee?" Emma made a disgusted face. The flight attendant's expression visibly twitched, but Liam's face remained calm. He took another sip of the coffee, not minding that Emma had just used the cup.
"It's pretty bad. Take it back. Bring us two glasses of orange juice instead," Liam said to the flight attendant, his face expressionless. Emma thought he was even crueler than she was. Couldn't he see the tears of grievance welling up in the flight attendant's eyes? Chivalry was clearly dead here.
After all, as Liam's wife, she could feel it clearly. Let alone a strange flight attendant.
So Emma did it to help her wake up quickly. Some men might be exceptional, but they weren't the kind you could easily fall for.
"Why don't you sleep a little longer?" Liam asked, watching Emma hand the blanket back to the flight attendant.
Emma shot him a dirty look. She thought it was all thanks to his devastatingly handsome face. The flight attendant kept hovering around him. That wasn't the problem—the problem was her voice, no matter how sweet, was incredibly annoying. It was a miracle Emma had managed to fall asleep at all.
So she pulled out her phone to play games. Emma wasn't interested in high-end games, but she loved the match-three puzzle game popular among middle-aged and older people. The problem was that she had reached level 200, and it was nearly impossible to advance. It had taken her over a month just to open the game again.
After more than ten minutes, she still couldn't pass the level. Emma figured she didn't have enough experience. Maybe the longer she played, the more likely she would succeed.
"I didn't expect you to play such a childish game," Liam's shameless voice drifted over faintly.
Emma looked up at the cold-faced man. "If you're so good, why don't you try playing this 'childish' game? I'd love to see how far you can get."
Liam still looked at her with a disdainful expression. "I never do anything without compensation."
At that moment, the essence of a businessman was exposed. Emma had once thought he was more like a soldier, but she had forgotten that spending too much time in a company would inevitably infect you with its traits.
"If you can get through thirty levels before we land, I'll grant you one condition. Anything you want. Deal?"
We need to increase the shift urgently. We need to make a full order. We're going to die, we're going to die. (©Ð)
