Revenge. This was nothing short of blatant revenge.
Staring at the charming smile on Liam Williams' handsome face, Emma Johnson felt an overwhelming urge to hurl the mountain of documents piled before her directly at him.
But did she dare? Of course not.
If she dared to throw them in his face, he would make her regret it in an even more ruthless way.
This man's heart had to be black as coal. He was simply too infuriating.
Thinking about how she was too swamped to find a designer tonight, Emma wanted to cry. She could almost feel the company Liam had promised her waving goodbye, drifting further and further away until it became a tiny speck on the horizon, nearly out of reach.
When Christopher Martin entered the office, this was the scene that greeted him.
Their boss's wife was sitting at a table, surrounded by piles of documents stacked like small hills. And the wife wore a bitter expression, as if the world was ending, a look of someone who wanted to cry but had no tears left.
Meanwhile, their boss, though also busy at his desk, had the corners of his mouth slightly upturned. What was that about? Perhaps he was in an exceptionally good mood.
Despite such a huge crisis, the boss could still maintain such a cheerful disposition. It must be more than just strong psychological resilience.
Looking at the boss's wife beside him, Christopher felt he had uncovered the truth.
"Come in. What is it?"
Liam raised his head, his gaze falling on the documents in Christopher's hand.
"Sir, this is the report on the losses related to the shutdown of the processing plant. If we don't take immediate action, I'm afraid the financial losses will continue to grow. And compared to the monetary loss, the potential risks are even more concerning."
He then handed the loss statement prepared by the finance department to Liam.
Although Emma couldn't see the exact figures from her distance, just by looking at Liam's furrowed brows, she could tell the amount must be substantial.
As Christopher had said, compared to the loss of money, the loss of credibility was a far greater hidden danger.
"I understand. As for the materials we've stockpiled, don't move them until we have a new designer. This will minimize the losses."
Liam spoke slowly.
"So, sir, have you found a replacement for Jameson?"
"Not yet. But your boss's wife should be able to find one soon. Right, darling? You won't let me down, will you?"
Liam suddenly shifted the conversation to her, and Emma gave a dry smile. She thought, This is the most urgent matter. You should let me go out and search for someone right now, instead of sitting here staring at a pile of useless project documents.
Are you even the president? Which is more important?
Christopher was surprised. He hadn't expected the president to entrust such an important task to his wife. He wondered if she was up to the challenge.
If the timing was too late, tomorrow's sales of Milan Fashion House would be fatally affected. But seeing the president as calm as ever, he didn't say anything more.
When the sun began to set and it was time to leave work, Emma had only finished about seventy percent. It wasn't that she was incompetent; there was just too much information. When she looked up at Liam, she felt like she wasn't seeing one person, but two.
"How's it going?"
Liam walked over to Emma and asked casually.
"There's still some left. I should be almost done by tomorrow morning."
"Well, it seems your work efficiency is quite good."
But Liam's praise didn't make Emma happy at all. Come on, she wasn't some fresh college graduate on an internship. She was a working professional with five years of experience and the position of editor-in-chief.
Even if she was facing a completely unfamiliar field, she could adapt quickly.
"For your hard work, I've decided to give you a nice reward tonight."
Emma looked at Liam's intoxicating smile, but an alarm immediately went off in her head. She thought, Is this guy trying to make up for what he didn't finish yesterday? Does he have to be so extravagant?
"Liam, I think you're in the prime of your life as a man. But you still need to take care of your health. Doing certain things too much is actually very bad for your body."
Emma looked at Liam with a serious face, trying to persuade him.
At first, Liam didn't understand what she was talking about. It took him a few seconds to react. His eyes looked dangerous, but the corners of his mouth curled even more.
"You're overthinking things. Why? Don't you want to see the movie directed by Stephen Chow?"
Emma was stunned. Then she felt like she wanted to crawl into a hole. She had embarrassed herself twice in one day. She was truly something.
But she was very happy to see a film directed by her idol. So after a moment, she adjusted her state and even took the initiative to put on her coat. She acted like a virtuous wife, as if she had all the models she wanted.
In her excitement, she didn't notice the enigmatic look in Liam's eyes at that moment.
She had no idea what price she would pay for what she had just said to Liam when they returned to Sunrise Manor after the movie.
So, when you want to say something, you must be more careful.
When Emma and Liam arrived at the cinema, she didn't expect to run into Elijah Clark and Mia Lewis there. Mia was delighted to see Emma and waved to her before she even reached them.
"What a coincidence! You came to see the movie too. Your husband seems quite romantic as well."
Mia pulled Emma aside and teased her.
Emma thought, Do you know how much mental work I had to do for this movie? I've been busy all day, and I'm about to fall apart, okay?
"Did Elijah invite you? It seems like there's a lot of potential for development between you two."
Emma looked at Elijah, who was not far away, and whispered to Mia. But she thought that Elijah had brought Mia to see a movie yesterday, and now she was meeting him again today. She hoped he and Liam could be more polite. Otherwise, it would be really hard for her to be caught in the middle.
Mia blushed a little and pushed Emma playfully, but the happiness on her face was still very obvious.
"I thought Emma wouldn't have time. I didn't expect you to bring her in person. I never knew you had such a sweet side?"
Elijah saw Liam and said sarcastically.
