Chapter 231

When Alexander Wilson saw people rushing out of the Grand Five, he knew something had gone wrong inside. He waited patiently for a long time, but Elijah Clark never appeared. Considering all the possibilities, Alexander hurried out of the car. He couldn't let Elijah truly encounter danger.

As he ran into the hotel, Adrian Frost picked up his phone and called Liam Williams.

"What's going on?"

"An opportunity that could let you play the hero in front of the woman you love. Do you want to take it?"

Adrian's smile was dark, his cold lips like water. A determined light shone in his eyes.

...

Emma Johnson felt her throat was itchy and dry. Her breathing was no longer smooth. Was she going to die?

"Emma, Emma, where are you?"

In the haze of her consciousness, Emma heard a voice calling her urgently. She struggled with her last strength, pushing her chair toward the door, pounding against it.

Finally, the door opened. Emma was lifted up.

"Liam, is that you? Someone finally came to save me."

Emma coughed weakly and fell into a pair of warm arms.

"Emma, don't be afraid. I won't let anything happen to you."

Liam's voice was very gentle, but Emma could barely hear it.

When Liam received Alexander's call and arrived at the Grand Five, he saw Elijah coming out with Emma in his arms. Liam's face darkened as he walked toward Elijah.

"Give her to me."

Looking at Emma, even unconscious, still clinging to Elijah's chest, Liam felt a surge of anger. He reached out to take Emma from Elijah.

"It hurts so much... it's burning..."

Emma's unconscious murmur in Elijah's arms struck like thunder, freezing Liam's hand in midair.

With provocation in his eyes, Elijah looked at Liam.

"Can you step aside now? Emma is in danger. I remember your shoulder seems to be injured. You can't hold her."

Liam withdrew his hand stiffly. The ambulance arrived at that moment. Watching Elijah carry Emma into the ambulance, Liam felt a bitter taste in his heart.

Emma, since you truly see Elijah as your brother, why do you rely on him so much even when you're unconscious?

Did you deceive me from the very beginning?

When she woke up, Emma's head throbbed slightly. She rubbed her temples and soon remembered the fire at the Grand Five. Fortunately, Elijah had arrived in time. Otherwise, she would have died.

"Emma, you're awake? Are you feeling alright?"

Elijah sat beside the bed, immediately grabbing Emma's hand, his face full of concern. It was already dark outside. The white light in the ward made her dizzy. She didn't see Liam standing not far away, and didn't pull her hand away from Elijah in time.

"I'm fine. I'm thirsty. Elijah, could you pour me a glass of water?"

Emma coughed a few times. A glass of water was quickly handed to her face, while Elijah still held her hand tightly. She didn't have time to loosen her grip.

"Liam?"

Emma looked up at him without taking the cup from his hand.

"Why are you so reluctant to let go? Or are you surprised to see me here?"

Liam's eyes were clearly sarcastic. Emma wondered what was wrong with him. Then she realized her hand was still being held tightly by Elijah. She quickly pulled it away.

Taking the water cup from Liam, Emma glanced at him from the corner of her eye and noticed his face was very gloomy at the moment.

He couldn't be angry over such a small thing. That would be too petty.

The air in the ward froze for a moment.

"Emma, don't worry. Scarlett Martinez has been arrested by the police. That woman is really stubborn. Even when caught, she only admitted to locking you in the box, but she didn't confess to setting the fire. No one will believe that. In short, she won't escape prison."

Elijah's words made Emma pause for a moment. Could it really not be Scarlett? But there was no one else besides her.

Emma thought too much, and her head began to ache again. She decided not to dwell on it. Everything had been handed over to the police anyway.

After drinking the water, Emma lifted the blanket and planned to get out of bed.

"Emma, what are you doing?"

"I'm going home. Liam, is your shoulder alright?"

Emma answered naturally and asked Liam with concern, afraid that he might have been hurt because of her. Liam's originally gloomy face softened a little.

"But Emma, you should stay in the hospital for one more day for observation."

"There's nothing to observe. I just choked on the smoke and fainted. I wasn't injured. You know I don't like being in the hospital. I hate the smell of disinfectant."

Emma insisted on leaving. Liam had already called the driver and asked him to wait at the hospital entrance.

Elijah watched helplessly and reluctantly as the two left. Behind him, a voice suddenly rang out.

"It's not easy for you to let go again. But maybe this time, you've left a deep impression in the heart of the woman you like."

Adrian Frost stood behind Elijah and said with regret.

"Next time, don't be so helpless. If I hadn't arrived in time, Emma's life would have been lost. Now that you know her place in my heart, you should go and save her from the fire."

Elijah turned his head, his face full of displeasure. Adrian shrugged innocently.

"Didn't I offer you an opportunity? If I had come out carrying her, would you have liked that?"

Seeing Elijah's silence, Adrian couldn't help but smile. He never expected that the usually smart and capable Elijah, cunning as a fox, would also be at a loss for words. But his day had come.

It seemed that the man who had fallen in love was hopeless.

...

"Liam, what's wrong with you?"

In the car, Emma looked at Liam's gloomy face and asked.

"Nothing."

Liam didn't want to ask about the relationship between Emma and Elijah. He was afraid that if he heard the answer he didn't want to hear, he wouldn't be able to control his anger.

Maybe it was best to pretend nothing had happened.

When they got home, Amelia White immediately came out. She didn't look at Emma at all. Instead, she looked worriedly at Liam.

"Brother, are you hurt? I heard there was a fire at the Grand Five. I was so afraid something would happen to you."

Amelia didn't forget to glare at Emma, clearly blaming her for putting Liam in danger again.

"I'm fine. You should rest early."
