"How can I trust you? This isn't the first or second time you've pulled something like this. Do I need to draft a contract or something? Huh?" Liam still couldn't bring himself to climb off her, his brows furrowed.
"There's no need for a written agreement. I know I was wrong, and I'm scared..." Emma pouted, whispering softly. "You can get off now. I promise I won't say anything after the divorce."
"Hmph, you'd better not let there be a next time, or even I won't be able to save you." Liam finally stood up, grabbing his shirt from the floor.
His hand accidentally brushed against his lips, sending a sharp sting through him. He glanced in the mirror and saw a chunk of flesh missing from the corner of his mouth, bitten off by Emma.
Damn it. He hissed. It hadn't hurt much a moment ago, but now the pain was unbearable. That infuriating woman!
Meanwhile, Emma scrambled to put her clothes back on as fast as she could. Her eyes fell on the cold contract lying on the floor.
Well, today was definitely not the right time to bring that up.
It was better not to fall for a man like Liam Williams. Otherwise, she couldn't imagine what her future would be like.
"Ugh..." Emma let out a deep sigh, picked up the contract, and shoved it into the drawer before trudging dejectedly to the bathroom.
When Liam finished tidying up and walked out, Sophia came over with an apologetic look. "Liam, how have you been sleeping lately? I didn't see anything just now, did I? I hope I didn't startle you."
Startled? Any normal man would have been terrified in that moment, right?
Liam thought back to Emma's bright eyes and the beautiful scene, and couldn't help touching his lips. The taste was just as good as he remembered.
So he raised his eyes with a smile and said, "Mom, it's fine."
"That's good. Seeing you two young lovebirds so happy puts our minds at ease. I've made breakfast. Come and eat."
Every time Sophia saw her son-in-law, she was all smiles. The eldest son of the Williams family was thoughtful, handsome, and flawless. How could she not be delighted?
Ten minutes later, Emma emerged from the room in a bright yellow dress. She still wasn't wearing any makeup, her eyes wide, her lips slightly parted. Her pale face looked a bit tired as she stepped into white high heels and walked toward Liam.
For a moment, he was dazed. Was this little girl really his wife?
Still lost in thought, Emma casually grabbed a bun from the table, took a sip of milk, and planned to leave. "Mom, I'm running late for work."
During all this, she didn't even glance at Liam.
Was she still angry with him? Over a contract? What was the big deal?
Liam sighed silently to himself.
Seeing her about to turn and leave, he said, "Sit down and finish your breakfast. I'll drive you. You won't be late."
"Tch, thanks but no thanks. No need!" Emma refused.
She wasn't going to talk to this man. If there was no communication between them, she wouldn't let him keep playing the role of the perfect son-in-law.
Who was afraid of whom?
Seeing that she wasn't listening at all, Liam had no choice but to stand up. "Mom, Dad, take your time. We're heading to work first."
Hmph, 'we'?
Who was going with him?
Emma ignored him and walked straight to the door. Just as she was about to step out, she remembered she might have to work overtime today, so she turned back to Sophia and said gently, "Mom, I have to work late tonight. Don't wait for me for dinner."
"Alright, don't work too hard, dear." Although Sophia was answering Emma, her eyes were fixed on Liam.
Seeing his wife like this, James couldn't help feeling jealous. "Honey, can you stop staring at your son-in-law? Are you old enough to be a cougar?"
Jealous. Definitely jealous.
What was wrong with her looking at her son-in-law? This old man was ridiculous.
Sophia shot James a fierce glare. "Don't start, old man. If I were twenty or thirty years younger, I might not even want you. My son-in-law is so wonderful—gentle, considerate, and handsome. Unlike you, who's just a bag of old bones, always getting jealous."
James doted on his wife. It seemed Emma's mischievous and lively personality came from her mother.
Not angry, James just chuckled to himself. "I was pretty handsome when I was young too. Back then, people called us a perfect match. Don't you remember?"
"Oh, you're such a smooth talker. That's how you tricked me into marrying you." Sophia had a smile on her lips, pretending to be annoyed.
The warm room was filled with their laughter.
But something seemed off with the two people in the elevator outside.
Emma chewed on the bun in her hand, her back to Liam, staring at the elevator doors. She looked ready to bolt the moment they opened.
"I'll drop you off, by the way," Liam said faintly from behind her.
"No, it's not far anyway."
That was true. Since Emma's home was in the city center, it wasn't far from her company. She usually walked to work.
On foot, it was just over ten minutes.
When the elevator doors opened with a ding, Emma had finished her bun. She stepped out without looking back.
Who wanted him to drive her? Who wanted to ride in his car?
Stingy guy. They wouldn't sign a contract. From now on, they'd better not interfere with each other. At most, they could put on a show in front of the elders.
Liam watched her head toward the community gate and immediately got into his car.
It was still that dazzling Land Rover. In no time, he pulled up beside Emma on the roadside.
She glanced at him and walked even faster in her high heels. She must really be in a hurry.
Liam honked the horn. Emma heard it, turned her head, and gave him a frosty look before continuing to walk. She had no intention of getting in.
She really had a temper. But he had done this to himself. Wasn't he just trying to take her to work?
Liam frowned slightly, impatience showing on his face. He drove slowly, but kept his hand on the horn.
A loud, long blast echoed through the city center sidewalk, making the passersby around Emma turn to look at the luxury car.
At that moment, Liam kept his speed at a crawl, driving side by side with Emma.
