"Well! Liam Williams, open your eyes and take a good look. Who is the man holding me now? If you don't want anything to happen to her, order all these special police to back off. Otherwise, even if I die, I'll drag this woman into the sea with me."
The man beside her finally spoke slowly, his voice cold and devoid of any emotion.
"Ghost, you'd better not push me. Or I'll make sure you die in agony."
A moment later, Liam's voice rang out. Even through his icy tone, you could hear just how furious he was.
Emma Johnson had lost one of her high heels. The sole of her foot felt freezing cold, and the sound of the ocean waves grew closer and closer. In the blinding white light, she saw a tall, slender figure emerge from the surrounded SWAT team. His handsome silhouette gradually became clear.
Emma saw the man's handsome face, as cold as an iceberg.
Then, the man beside her—the one called Ghost—suddenly pulled a pistol from his pocket. His neck was tightly gripped by one of Ghost's wrists, forcing his head up. It was hard to breathe, let alone figure out how to grab the gun from this vicious man's hands.
Emma was terrified.
"Liam Williams, if you want your woman to be safe, drop your gun and tell those SWAT officers to leave."
The man said fiercely, pressing the muzzle of the gun mercilessly against Emma's temple.
Emma wanted to tell Liam not to put down his gun. Once they lost their advantage, the hostage-taker would have the upper hand. But Emma could barely breathe at that moment; she couldn't even open her mouth. Soon, she heard Liam give the order, followed by the sound of guns hitting the ground.
"Now that I've done what you asked, you'd better let Emma go immediately."
Liam placed his gun on the ground and spoke to Ghost.
"It seems you really care about this woman."
As soon as Emma heard the man's voice, she was suddenly pushed forward. Liam caught her, and all her strength seemed to drain into his arms.
She didn't see Ghost aim his gun at her back, his finger already on the trigger.
Seeing this from the corner of his eye, Liam immediately wrapped his arms around Emma, shielding her body with his own. A gunshot rang out, and Emma was completely stunned.
Ghost saw the SWAT officers picking up their guns, ready to aim at him. He quickly turned around, dove into the deep sea, and disappeared completely.
"Liam, what should I do? You can't die. You must not die."
Emma saw that Liam's left shoulder had been shot. Blood flowed uncontrollably, and the smell of blood grew stronger and stronger. Emma felt dizzy, her vision blurring. She tried her best not to faint, her clear eyes fixed on the man kneeling on one knee.
"Don't worry. I won't die. The bullet didn't hit a vital spot."
Liam's reassurance didn't ease Emma's anxiety much. She still looked at him with worry. Captain Reed and Christopher Martin, who had arrived, helped Liam up, gave him a simple bandage, and then took him back to the hospital. They asked Dr. Jones to remove the bullet from his shoulder, clean the wound, disinfect it, and re-bandage it.
Throughout the entire process, Emma stayed by Liam's side. When Dr. Jones was about to remove the bullet from Liam's shoulder, she even offered her arm.
"If it hurts, bite my arm."
Seeing her like this, Liam felt both touched and amused. This little woman seemed truly scared, even her usual intelligence had vanished.
He raised his other uninjured arm, ruffled her already messy hair, and comforted her.
"If I couldn't stand the pain, I wouldn't dare to take that bullet."
At that moment, Emma truly realized that Liam was a soldier. That's why he could face life and death so calmly. It completely overturned her previous impression of him as just a businessman.
After being busy until the middle of the night, Emma couldn't hold on any longer. She lay down beside Liam's bed and fell asleep. Liam asked a nurse to help move Emma to a bed and cover her with a quilt. This made the two nurses show looks of envy.
They thought that marrying a man like that would make everything worth it.
Too much love? No.
When Liam left the ward, Christopher Martin, Alexander Wilson, and Captain Reed were all waiting outside. They knew Liam would come out, so they hadn't left.
"I've sent people to search the area. Even two boats went further out to look. But we haven't found Ghost's body. I'm afraid he jumped into the sea to escape. It wasn't suicide after all."
Captain Reed looked serious as he gave Liam the latest update.
"He's injured in the stomach. He won't get far. Is Elijah Clark on duty at Brookhaven General Hospital today?" Liam suddenly asked. Captain Reed shook his head.
"Do you mean Ghost will look for Elijah?"
"They're both core members of the Black Feather organization. If something happens, it's not surprising that he'd seek him out. Now send someone to check where Elijah lives. Elijah is a doctor. Right now, I'm afraid Ghost can only find him."
Liam spoke slowly, his face cold. Before his voice even faded, Alexander Wilson had already taken out his car keys and left the corridor. Captain Reed quickly took out his phone to make arrangements. But there was nothing for Christopher Martin to do for the time being, so Liam asked him to go home first.
"Sir, do you need me to get some of your clothes? After all, you'll be staying in the hospital for a while."
Christopher Martin didn't leave immediately. He asked Liam.
"Who said I'm staying in the hospital?" Liam didn't look like a patient with a shoulder injury at all.
"But—"
"Enough. When Emma wakes up, we're going home. You know I don't like hospitals. It's not a fatal wound. It's no big deal."
Christopher Martin wanted to persuade him again, but Liam waved his hand and sent him off to rest. This left Christopher Martin feeling helpless.
He thought it wasn't very good to have a boss who was a soldier. It was really a headache that he didn't take life and death seriously.
Liam went back to the room and looked at the woman lying on the bed, sleeping soundly. He was very glad she hadn't been shot. Otherwise, he was afraid she might not have survived.
