"I only remember what she sprayed on my face, and then I blacked out. I don't know anything after that. What did she give me while I was unconscious?"
Emma Johnson listened to Elijah's words and thought the possibility of that crazy woman being behind it was very high. After all, that woman had lost her husband and the baby in her belly. She wouldn't want anyone else to be happy.
But after thinking it over, it didn't make sense. Since the crazy woman had already decided to kill her, there was no need to make her lose the chance to become a mother. If everyone was dead, what was the point of taking medicine?
Emma and Elijah analyzed it for a long time, but they still couldn't figure out who the real mastermind was.
Just then, Liam Williams called. Before Emma could answer, Elijah had already taken the phone from her hand and pressed the speaker button.
Elijah angrily demanded to know why Liam hadn't found Emma's body sooner. After hearing Elijah's words, there was a long silence on the other end of the line.
"Keep her in the hospital for now. I'll be right there."
Before Elijah could respond, Liam hung up. The fastest route from Pinnacle Corporation to Brookhaven General Hospital took half an hour, but in less than ten minutes, Emma saw Liam appear in Elijah's office.
Liam's face was as cold as ice. The dangerous glint in his eyes made Emma almost wonder if he was about to kill someone. It was a little terrifying.
But when his cold gaze fell on Emma, it softened, becoming gentle and careful.
"You're alright."
It seemed Liam had used a great deal of strength just to ask that question. Emma didn't know how much damage this incident had caused him.
"I'm fine. Thanks to Elijah, he had me check my body. Otherwise, I'm afraid I wouldn't have found out."
"Thank you, Elijah."
This was the first time Liam had changed his attitude toward Elijah, instead of being at odds with him. Elijah's expression didn't improve.
"Have you offended anyone recently? Vivian couldn't have any enemies. Every time she's in danger, it's because of you, and this time is no exception. Liam, can you really protect her? I seriously doubt how you ever became the commander of the military district."
Elijah's words were merciless, but Liam didn't argue.
"Elijah, I'm fine now, aren't I? I didn't even notice this, so how could Liam have?"
Elijah was furious. Why did Emma always defend Liam? His heart ached, but it also made him more determined to take Emma away from Liam's hands. He was convinced that Liam couldn't protect his beloved Emma. Only he could.
Liam took Emma home and personally called Dr. Julian Moore, making an appointment for a thorough examination.
"Emma, do you blame me?" Liam's voice sounded a little hoarse.
"Why would I?"
"Your life should have been peaceful, but meeting me has made it full of storms."
Emma couldn't help but laugh when she heard him say that.
"Liam, no one can predict what will happen in the next moment of their life. But I don't believe I'll be unlucky forever. Besides, not everything is related to you. You don't have to blame yourself."
As soon as Emma finished speaking, Liam pulled her tightly into his arms, holding her so close she could barely breathe.
...
In the dead of night, Liam looked at Emma sleeping beside him, then quietly got out of bed and left the apartment. A car was parked outside. Alexander Wilson and Christopher Martin were inside.
Liam got into the car, bringing a chill with him.
"Sir, the man who contacted the gardener has been arrested and handed over to Captain Reed's team. Captain Reed is interrogating him now, but he's keeping his mouth shut. We can't get any clues about whether he's connected to the Black Feather criminal organization."
Although Christopher felt it might be too hasty to arrest the man, and that they should wait patiently for more leads, he knew the boss had lost his patience after what happened to his wife.
"Is that so? I'd like to see how much willpower he has to resist me when I interrogate him personally."
Liam gave a cold smile. The danger in his voice sent a chill down Christopher's spine.
He knew the boss wouldn't use violent interrogation methods on the suspect, but would use something far more terrifying. Even if a person's body was strong, once their spirit was broken, they would be completely destroyed.
And that was the most frightening thing of all.
Tonight was destined to keep many people awake.
...
"You said to work hard in the processing plant?"
William Thompson sat in the private room of his nightclub, looking at Ryan Kim, and confirmed again.
"Yes, Mr. Thompson. There are so many people under you. As long as they stay hidden, they won't be found."
"It's easy for you to say. Who is Liam Williams? Besides the day and night shifts, there are guards at the door and monitors everywhere. As long as my people go, they'll leave traces."
William immediately vetoed the idea.
"Don't worry about that. I'll take care of the gatekeepers and the monitors. It won't be discovered. As long as the new series of Milan Fashion House can't be delivered on time, it will definitely cause a backlash from customers. And at that time, it will be the perfect moment for Evergreen Corporation to step in."
Ryan pushed up the bridge of his glasses, a calculating gleam flashing in his eyes.
Hearing his detailed plan, William thought it was worth a try. Once successful, Pinnacle Corporation's reputation would be damaged. For him, it was a way to kill two birds with one stone.
"Alright, remember not to expose my people."
"Of course."
In the private room, the atmosphere of conspiracy spread quietly.
...
As the sky began to lighten, Liam came out of the interrogation room, leaving behind a man in shackles who looked like he was on the verge of collapse, clutching his hair.
"How did it go? Did you get anything out of him?" Captain David Reed asked Liam.
"Although we still don't know who the leader of the Black Feather organization is, we do know that besides Foxhunter, another core figure, Shahun, has also appeared in City A. It's because of his involvement that the crazy woman was released, putting Emma in danger."
"He's always been active in Europe. When did he take over Asia?"
"I'm afraid we'll only find out when we find him."
When Liam finished speaking, a cold light flashed in his eyes. From now on, time would become urgent.
