Emma Johnson's words had already made Liam Williams uncomfortable. Now, what she said next made him even more uneasy.
He had always suspected that besides the Black Feather criminal group, there were other people secretly plotting against him. Perhaps someone had discovered he was investigating Black Feather, which forced Liam to be extra cautious. He feared that one careless mistake would put Emma in danger again.
"In that case, let's postpone the wedding for a while."
Judging by Liam's tone, the wedding was only delayed, not canceled.
"What's the point? Liam, you yourself said how important a wedding is to a woman. So I think your grand wedding should be saved for the woman you truly love in the future. Otherwise, when you meet someone you can spend your life with, you'll regret having a wedding with me. Let's not do something we'll regret later."
Emma was being considerate toward Liam, but he misunderstood her intentions. He thought she didn't want to hold the wedding because she wanted to save it for the man she truly loved in the future.
This thought made Liam extremely unhappy. Jealousy immediately flared up inside him.
"But I think we're actually quite compatible. Otherwise, let's postpone the contract and get to know each other better. Maybe we're perfect for each other."
Liam strode over and wrapped his arm around Emma's waist. Before she could react, he suddenly lifted her onto his lap. His domineering, masculine breath surrounded her, and the air between them began to feel charged and intimate.
This scene changed too quickly. A moment ago, they were talking about him and other women. How did it suddenly become about them?
"Liam, do you really think we're that compatible?"
"Of course."
Liam answered firmly without hesitation. He thought his words would move Emma deeply, but instead, she reached out and touched his forehead.
Then she muttered to herself, "No fever."
"Emma."
Liam grabbed her hand and looked at her with displeasure. He wondered how this woman always managed to drift away from the situation when things got serious.
"Liam, I think our personalities are completely different. Actually, they're totally opposite. Especially the longer we're together, the more I feel that way."
Emma finally became serious and spoke to Liam.
"That doesn't matter. It's just complementing each other. It's not a good thing if a couple's temperaments are too similar."
Liam's shamelessness left Emma speechless. She wanted to continue persuading him about how different they were, hoping he would give up the idea of extending the contract.
But unexpectedly, Liam suddenly picked her up and walked toward the bedroom.
"Liam, I'm not finished yet. Put me down now!"
"Darling, it's very late. The night is short. Let's rest early."
Liam carried Emma back to the bedroom and placed her on the bed. But he didn't leave. Instead, he lifted a corner of the blanket and lay down beside her.
"Who told you to sleep here? Get out!"
Emma sat up from the bed and raised her foot to kick Liam off. Unfortunately, her strength was limited. It felt like tickling to him.
"Alright, go to sleep. There's only one room here. Do you want me to sleep on the living room sofa? I'm not used to sleeping on sofas."
Liam reached out with his long arm and pulled Emma back down to lie beside him. His tone carried a hint of drowsiness.
Seeing that he didn't make any further moves, Emma had no choice but to acquiesce. She thought to herself that Liam must have had some strange idea when he bought this apartment. It was ridiculous that an apartment over a hundred square meters only had one bedroom.
Emma wondered if she needed to buy another bed and put it in her study. It would be better for Liam to sleep there. Sleepiness began to creep in, and soon she drifted off.
The next morning, when she woke up, she was mortified to find herself clinging to Liam like an octopus. Seeing that he hadn't gotten up yet, she assumed he hadn't noticed. She quickly moved away from him and ran into the bathroom to cool her face.
How embarrassing.
She didn't know that when she ran into the bathroom, the man lying on the bed behind her had already opened his eyes. A hint of charm lingered in his lazy expression, and his thin, cool lips curved into a gentle smile.
When Emma came out of the bathroom after washing up, she didn't find Liam in the bedroom. She walked out and smelled the aroma of fried eggs. The man in the open kitchen was wearing only striped pajama pants, with nothing on his upper body, revealing his healthy wheat-colored skin and impeccable physique.
His slender figure reminded Emma of a special topic the magazine had once held: when are men the most sexy and charming? When they voted, many people said that a man cooking in the kitchen was the sexiest. In the past, because she hadn't experienced it firsthand, she didn't know what a man looked like in the kitchen, especially one without a shirt.
Today, when she saw Liam, she finally understood what that little editor at the magazine had meant when she described it as almost making her drool.
She remembered the editor saying at the time: "Not only is the man's cooking delicious, but he himself looks delicious too."
Emma felt like a carnivore just thinking about it. She turned around and sat down at the table, not wanting to see Liam and disturb her thoughts.
She just waited for Liam to bring the food.
During breakfast, Emma told Liam that she would be going to work starting today. Liam knew that Emma wasn't the kind of woman who could stay at home. Even though she was a bit scatterbrained in her personal life, she was a complete workaholic at work.
Yesterday, Dr. Moore had told him that there was no problem with Emma working, as long as she didn't overexert herself. So Liam allowed her to go to work, but he insisted on driving her to New York Fashion Magazine.
By the way, he also met Joshua Harris. He discussed with him this year's sponsorship of New York Fashion Magazine by Pinnacle Corporation. During their conversation, he mentioned his concerns about Emma's health.
