"I'm behind you all the way. If you can't find a place that suits you, just let me know. I can help."
Emma said to Emilia.
"Thanks, Emma. I won't hold back, then."
"If you were polite with me, I'd be upset."
Emma smiled.
At the top floor of the Pinnacle Corporation building.
"What about the investigation?"
Liam sat in his office chair, his tone serious as he addressed Christopher.
"So far, we've only traced the damage to the door back to a gardener named Jin. He works in the rear garden of Brookhaven General Hospital. He's nearly thirty, grew up in an orphanage, and is single. Since he's mute, he rarely interacts with anyone except to buy groceries once a week and return to the orphanage where he was raised. It's been difficult to find out who he meets on a regular basis. Sir, should we hand him over to the police?"
Christopher reported the findings from the past two days.
"Hold off for now. Send someone to investigate the identity and whereabouts of the orphanage director and everyone who grew up with him. Emma just had an accident, so the gardener won't be contacting anyone anytime soon. What we need to do now is wait until we uncover the real mastermind."
"Sir, I keep feeling like the person behind this might be connected to the criminal group you're investigating. I'm not sure if I'm overthinking it."
"You're not overthinking it, because I think so too. However, we have no evidence yet, and we can't go hunting foxes without a specific target. But finding the gardener is a rare lead. As for the people behind the scenes, I'll find them out one day."
Liam's voice was cold.
"Yes, sir. I understand what to do. By the way, I've just confirmed which agency my wife went to. She's still waiting for news from them."
Christopher finished reporting the last item and quickly added what the president cared about most.
"Oh, I remember when we built a garden community on Park Avenue, we left an apartment for myself, didn't we?"
A cunning smile curved Liam's lips, his expression pleasant.
"Yes, sir. It's located in the downtown area, not only very close to the Pinnacle Corporation building, but even the New York Fashion Magazine where my wife works is only a ten-minute drive away. Although you've never been there, someone cleans it regularly every week. Everything is in place, so you could move in that day."
As Liam's chief assistant, Christopher immediately recognized the hidden meaning in his short sentence. He had wondered earlier why Liam was so calm when he heard that Emma had left Sunrise Manor that morning.
But it turned out the president already had a plan.
Sure enough, the little white rabbit couldn't outsmart the cheetah.
Christopher couldn't help thinking to himself.
"Good. Call that agency right now. Set the price as low as possible. As for a reasonable reason, come up with one yourself."
After giving his orders, Liam began reading the documents stacked on his desk.
Christopher suddenly realized he now had another job: being a landlord. It seemed that to be a qualified presidential assistant, you needed to master eighteen different skills.
At noon, Emma was eating with Elijah in Emilia's hospital room. Just as she was eating, she was surprised to find that the housing agency was calling her.
She had thought it would be at least two or three in the afternoon. After all, she had a lot of demands. Unexpectedly, the agency was very efficient.
"Hello, is this Miss Emma? We now have a house that's perfect for you. The owner is in a hurry to go abroad and just needs someone to occupy the place, so the rent is very cheap. I don't know if you have time to come see it now. If it's suitable, you'd better make a decision immediately. After all, a good house like this will be rented out quickly once it's missed."
The agency manager's warm voice explained the general situation of the house over the phone. At first, when Emma heard that a 180-square-meter apartment was only going for the price of a 40-square-meter one, she thought her ears were playing tricks on her.
It wasn't until later, when she personally went to see the house and the contract, that she believed the sky could really drop a pie. And this place was really close to where she worked. Even if she took the bus, it was only a ten-minute walk. It was a great location, saving her half an hour of walking.
So Emma immediately signed a one-year lease on the spot with the agency manager and paid the rent. In the afternoon, she returned to Brookhaven General Hospital and dragged her luggage out of Elijah's office.
Since Elijah had to meet with Mayor Reed in the afternoon, he could only take Emma to the hospital entrance and hail a taxi for her to leave.
Emma arrived at her new apartment with the key, feeling overjoyed.
The original owner of this apartment must have kept it very clean. There was almost no dust in the room. Not only that, but the appliances and furniture were also very complete. As long as she took a few changes of clothes, she could live here completely.
However, since she was living here, she had to eat. Emma saw that all the food in the refrigerator was instant food, with no fresh ingredients. It reminded her that she couldn't cook. Her mother had done it before she married Liam. After she married Liam, it was the chef at the Williams family. Even if she wasn't picky, her palate had long been spoiled.
There was no way she could eat takeout three times a day.
That would be too painful.
Emma decided to go to the market to buy some simple persimmons and cucumbers to make a vegetable salad for the night. It seemed she needed to buy some cookbooks and learn to cook.
After making the decision, Emma went to the nearby market and bought some vegetables and fruits. Although she had tried to buy as little as possible.
But when she carried two bags of things to the elevator, she still felt that it was necessary to have a man around her at this time.
At least Liam could easily pick up the two bags in her hand with one arm. She looked like she was struggling. If it weren't for the fact that she was close to the elevator, her arms would be shaking.
It was really torture. Next time, she would never buy so many things.
