"Stop her! Who let her in? Stop her immediately!" The Minister of Transportation shouted at the people outside the door.
Several people rushed in from outside and grabbed Isabella Miller. Unexpectedly, Isabella muttered something under her breath. Then, her eyes rolled back, and she collapsed in a dead faint.
Liam Williams was startled. He stepped forward instantly to catch her. However, he noticed her eyes were bloodshot, and she couldn't speak. She just raised her hand, tightly clutching Liam's sleeve, struggling.
"My God... She's dying!" The Minister of Transportation was stunned. The symptoms were muscle spasms, emotional instability, and shortness of breath.
Liam pursed his lips and stood up. He hadn't expected things to turn out like this.
Isabella... ah...
What a coincidence. Perfect timing! Oh!
...
The splendor of dusk shrouded the white hospital building, casting a golden glow that was both dazzling and brilliant.
In Emma Johnson's ward, Mia Lewis sat by the bed, handing an apple to the poor woman lying there.
"Well, you need to take care of yourself. I'm still waiting for your second wedding." Mia said cheerfully.
Second wedding?
Emma pretended to be angry, glaring at her with wide eyes. "What second wedding! I was just..." As she tried to explain, Mia cut her off.
"Okay, I get it. It's our brave and fearless editor-in-chief who sacrificed herself in a traffic accident on her wedding day. Right?" Mia said, quickly covering her ears to avoid Emma's retaliation, grabbing her bag, and heading for the emergency exit.
Before closing the door, she still poked her head back in to joke, "My dear Emma, take good care of your injuries, and watch out for your brain."
"You..."
The rest of Emma's scolding was shut out by the door as Mia left happily on her own.
As she stepped out of the elevator, Mia happened to run into Elijah Clark, who had just finished a meeting and was getting ready to leave work.
Mia's eyes lit up. She hummed a tune as she sidled up to Elijah, patting him on the shoulder.
Elijah turned around warily. Seeing it was Mia, he immediately softened the dangerous look in his eyes, letting a gentle smile peek through. But the moment he saw Elijah's face, Mia's cheerful mood vanished, and she froze.
Elijah raised an eyebrow, looking at Mia questioningly.
Was there something on his face?
Oh, right. He remembered he'd had a fight with Liam Williams in the upstairs ward, and it had been a brutal one. The wound on his face hadn't been properly treated yet.
Elijah smiled sheepishly, turned back, and continued walking. "My face looks terrible."
"Huh?" Mia finally snapped out of it. She quickly followed Elijah's steps, waving her hands. "No matter what, men... it's inevitable that they get a little wild sometimes! Ha ha ha..." Mia laughed awkwardly.
This time, it was Elijah's turn to be surprised. Wild? Was that a good explanation?
Fine, he'd take it.
Elijah took out his car keys, pressed a button, and the doors unlocked. Mia had an idea. She quickly grabbed Elijah's arm and said, "Well... is it convenient for you to give me a ride? I didn't drive here today."
A beautiful woman asking for a favor was hard to refuse, especially when that beauty was Emma's good friend. So, Elijah agreed with a smile.
As the car drove out of the parking lot, Mia looked back at her lonely white car left behind and muttered silently, Baby, your owner will come pick you up tomorrow. Don't be afraid. For the sake of having a male owner, I'm sorry. I'll take you back for maintenance. Amen!
The two left the hospital. If you thought Mia just wanted Elijah to simply drop her off at home, you'd be wrong.
And if you thought Mia was smart enough to just want to spend more time alone with Elijah, you'd be very wrong.
By the time Elijah was convinced by Mia's silver tongue to let her treat the wound on his face, his car was parked downstairs, and he was covered in black lines.
"Have a seat first. I'll pour you a glass of water, and then I'll help you with your wound." Mia opened the door and called Elijah inside.
"Don't bother. I'm a doctor. I can do it myself." Elijah tried to refuse, feeling embarrassed.
Mia immediately frowned. She turned around and said, "What do you mean? You men are so careless. We women are more meticulous about these little things. I said I'll do it, so I'll do it. Now sit down."
Mia's sudden change in attitude left Elijah speechless. He couldn't get a word out, so he had to sit on the sofa.
...
Brookhaven General Hospital.
Early in the morning, Emma Johnson, still fast asleep, was woken up by the commotion of doctors and nurses in the room.
At first glance, it seemed a new patient was being admitted. In this hospital, how many people were sent in every day? The hospitalization fees were as terrifying as a money incinerator, and so many people surrounding one patient... wasn't that just burning money?
"Sister Emma?" A familiar voice reached Emma's ears.
She looked around. Huh? Wasn't that Emilia Clark? How could she be here? "Emilia, this is..."
"I was transferred here. I didn't expect we'd be so destined to end up in the hospital together."
Emma gave a dry smile. Fate was one thing, but she'd rather not have it involve hospitals. She never wanted to come in here again. Now, she could barely move without pain, and sleeping made her whole body ache.
"Speaking of which, Sister Emma, how did you end up in the hospital?" Emilia slowly lay down on the bed and pulled the covers over herself.
"Well, it's a long story." Emma sighed. She was stuck in the hospital, having provoked another huge fight between Elijah and Liam, a whole mess of misunderstandings.
"I was in an accident a couple of days ago." Emma said simply.
"A car accident? How could that happen? What about the driver who caused it?" Emilia frowned, looking worried.
Speaking of the driver, Emma was at a loss for words. He'd even fled the scene! She didn't know if Liam had... dealt with it yet.
Thinking about this, Emma fell silent. Since Liam had stormed off angrily yesterday, he hadn't called or texted her. Not even a single word of concern. Was he really that angry? Was this really a big problem this time?
The more she thought about it, the more frightened she became. Just as she was about to pick up her phone and call him, she suddenly stopped. After all, they weren't really married. It was just an engagement. How could she take it so seriously?
She smiled bitterly.
"Sister Emma? Sister Emma, what's wrong?" Emilia's soft voice broke through Emma's daze.
She turned her head and looked at Emilia. "Huh?"
Huh? Weren't they just talking about the driver? She hadn't answered a single word and was still lost in thought.
Was it that serious? The accident... tsk tsk, it must have been bad.
Emilia pursed her lips and laughed, shaking her head. "It's nothing!"
