Chapter 16

Let's talk about Liam Williams.

Pinnacle Corporation.

"Sir, here are the company's results from the last quarter. Please take a look." It was Christopher Martin, Liam's personal assistant, who also served as the head of the Sales Department at Pinnacle Corporation.

Among all the employees in the group, only Christopher dared to address Liam as "Mr. Williams." Everyone else respectfully called him "President."

At that moment, Christopher held a stack of documents and placed them on Liam's desk. After waiting for a long time without seeing any response, he looked up and noticed Liam standing alone by the window, gazing into the distance.

His lean figure was accentuated by his tailored suit. Perhaps it was because he hadn't spoken, but the entire room was filled with a chilling atmosphere of solemnity and indifference.

"Sir?" Christopher called out tentatively again.

In all the years Christopher had known Liam, this was the first time he had seen him so lost in thought that he completely ignored his presence.

Sir, is something wrong?

What's on your mind?

Just as Christopher was pondering this, Liam turned around and said in an unusually gentle voice, "Christopher, you're here. I have something for you to do."

"Yes, sir, as you wish." It was the first time Christopher had heard such a soft tone from Liam.

Mr. Williams, are you sure you're feeling alright?

"Help me pick out a necklace from Celestial Gems. Preferably one set with diamonds. Buy the most expensive one. Just go take a look—I'll need it this evening." Liam pursed his lips, then walked over to his desk chair, sat down as if nothing had happened, and began carefully reviewing the papers on his desk.

Christopher was speechless.

So, sir, you want me to buy a necklace for another woman? And you specifically said the most expensive one?

It seemed this woman had a special relationship with his boss.

At least, as far as Christopher knew, there had never been any woman around Liam. Could it be that he had been thinking about this mysterious woman all along?

But that didn't make sense. If his boss cared about this woman, why didn't he choose the necklace himself instead of sending someone else?

Christopher thought for a long time but couldn't figure it out. "Sir, is this for your girlfriend?"

Liam froze, his hand holding the document pausing mid-air. After a moment of thought, he looked up, frowned, and said slowly, "Why are you asking so many questions? Just do as I say."

Christopher was taken aback.

Sir, you've slipped up again, haven't you?

"Oh, I understand, sir. I'll go now." Christopher didn't say another word and wisely left the room.

After leaving, he headed straight to Celestial Gems. To be honest, he wasn't good at buying necklaces.

Ever since Liam retired from the military and became the president of Pinnacle Corporation, Christopher had been by his side. He didn't even have a girlfriend himself, let alone experience buying jewelry.

He wasn't good with aesthetics. Sigh.

Anyway, buying the most expensive one should be the right choice.

But it was strange. In all the years he had been with Liam, he had never seen a female companion around him. He had even started to wonder if his boss was... different.

Now it seemed there was someone, and it was serious.

Half an hour later, Christopher knocked on Liam's door, slightly out of breath. "Sir, the necklace you wanted is beautiful. It's very exquisite. The diamond on the pendant is five carats. Any girl would love it."

"Are you sure?"

Liam had seen Emma Johnson. She was completely different from other ordinary girls. Otherwise, wouldn't she be arguing with him all day about getting a divorce?

Emma was truly a unique flower.

After thinking for a moment, Liam decided to let it go. It was just a formality anyway. Since they were married, it was only natural to give her a necklace or something.

Besides, he and Emma hadn't married for love. It was purely for his own selfish reasons.

"Of course, sir. As long as it's a woman, she'll love it. Five carats—have you never heard of it? Every girl dreams of having a diamond the size of a pigeon egg." Christopher had no idea where he had heard that, but he spoke as if it were the absolute truth.

A five-carat dream? A pigeon egg?

"Alright, you can go now." Liam looked up at the beautiful box, his voice sounding almost dismissive.

Despite what he said, he secretly hoped Emma would like it. After all, when she smiled, it was truly captivating.

After work, Liam put the beautiful box in his pocket, grabbed his car keys, and drove toward Emma's house.

Unfortunately, Emma had to work overtime that afternoon. The magazine was in a rush to release a new issue, so she had an impromptu meeting and didn't get home until almost seven o'clock.

When Sophia Johnson opened the door, she saw Emma coming back. With a wide grin, she whispered mysteriously in her ear, "Emma, there's a big surprise waiting for you tonight."

A surprise? Ever since she met Liam, it seemed like surprises had disappeared from Emma's dictionary. Her world was full of shocks.

Besides her mother's appearance, she knew it couldn't be anything good. She could tell just by thinking about it.

But Emma still played along, forcing a tired smile onto her face. "What big surprise, Mom? Did you find some money?"

Emma said this while changing her slippers at the door. She walked over to the water dispenser and poured herself a large glass of water.

"Honey, you're back! It must have been tough working overtime!"

That voice... It sounded familiar.

Was it Liam?

Poof!

Emma was so startled that she couldn't hold it in. She sprayed all the water she hadn't swallowed yet onto Liam, who had suddenly appeared behind her.

James and Sophia Johnson rushed over, both stunned by the scene before them.

What was going on?

How could a new wife treat her husband like this?

Was this really okay?

James couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat for his daughter.

Emma also realized she had made a mistake. No, a very serious mistake.

This was terrible. Liam had a small heart and a strong sense of revenge. Who knew how he would torture her now?

"Are... are you okay, Liam? I didn't mean to..." Emma's voice grew softer and softer, almost turning into a whisper by the end.

For five seconds, Liam stood still, not moving a muscle, not saying a word.

Emma secretly glanced at his face. At that moment, Liam's sharp, handsome features were full of angular elegance. His dark eyes held a hint of charm, his thick eyebrows, high nose, and perfectly shaped lips all exuding nobility and grace.

But the only thing that didn't match his handsome face was his expression. It was as dark as charcoal.

Sophia quickly grabbed a clean towel and threw it at Emma. "Why don't you dry your husband off? What's the matter? What if he catches a cold..."

Emma was speechless. Could a little water really make him catch a cold?

She was really worried about her mother's IQ. She wanted to say something but decided against it.

Forget it. She'd better figure out how to deal with Liam first. She was in big trouble now.

Emma took the towel and carefully reached out to wipe the water off Liam's face. She was so nervous that her hands trembled. "Are you okay? I... I really didn't mean to, Liam..."

Liam remained silent.

Did she think saying "I didn't mean to" would make everything okay?

He was so important that no one had ever dared to treat him like this, let alone spray water on him!
