Liam Williams reached out and touched Emilia Clark's forehead. Not only was she bleeding from the nose, but she was also burning up with fever. The situation was critical.
Just then, Christopher Martin pulled up with the car. He jogged over, took one look at the scene, and didn't hesitate. "Sir, what's the plan? How should we handle this?"
"Take her to the hospital in my car right now. I doubt an ambulance can get here in time," Liam said, his voice steady.
"But it's rush hour. The roads will be a nightmare. We'll never make it in time, Liam... this won't work..." Emma Johnson sobbed, her voice thick with despair. She felt like she was losing her mind.
Liam was usually so sharp. Why couldn't he think of a better solution now?
Emma bit her lip, her eyes fixed on Emilia, who was unconscious. The blood was still flowing, and nothing could stop it.
Liam frowned slightly. Then, an idea struck him. His voice was low but firm. "Christopher, call the Minister of Transportation immediately. I want every road from here to Brookhaven General Hospital cleared. At every intersection, have people stop all traffic. No one gets through except my car. Also, have the police station send two squad cars. I need them to clear the way. No one dares to block Liam Williams's car."
Liam had come up with the plan in record time, explaining it to Christopher word by word.
He knew the heads of both the Transportation Ministry and the police station personally, so getting this done wouldn't be a problem.
With the roads clear, it would take just over four minutes to get from here to the city hospital. Right now, it was the best option.
Emma was stunned, still frozen in place, not understanding what was happening.
Liam quickly walked over to Emilia, gently lifted her into his arms, and carried her to the car. Christopher made two calls as he walked.
Emma could only follow Liam, her steps hurried, feeling like a child who had done something terribly wrong.
Christopher hung up, slid into the driver's seat, and glanced at Liam and Emma in the rearview mirror. He said nothing.
But he couldn't help thinking: this young lady was nothing but trouble.
The moment he'd arrived at the company, he'd seen Liam's dark expression and knew his day was about to get worse.
He could see it clearly. It was Emma who had Liam looking like this.
Even though he was angry, Christopher could see the worry and care in Liam's eyes.
The city center was always the most congested. They hadn't gone far before they were stuck in traffic.
Emma looked out the window anxiously. What could they do now?
When would this endless line of cars ever move?
"Liam... what are we going to do?" Emma's voice was filled with panic and grievance.
This was a matter of life and death. If something happened to Emilia, how could she ever explain it to Aunt Susan?
The thought made Emma want to die.
"What do you think? It's rush hour, why aren't you at the company? You've made a mess of things again. When haven't I had to clean up after you? Emma, can you just give me a break?" Liam looked at the girl in his arms, now in a deep coma. He was both angry and worried.
He looked up at Emma. Her clear eyes were red and swollen, her thin body trembling as if she were terrified. Her pale face was drained of all color.
As soon as the words left his mouth, Liam regretted them. She must be scared out of her mind right now.
Emma didn't say a word. She just blinked her big, watery eyes, looking at Liam pitifully. She wanted to speak but was afraid of being scolded, so she could only bite her lip.
She never expected this to happen.
She'd just wanted to take Emilia out for a nice meal. How had it turned into this?
And how was she supposed to know that a blood cancer patient couldn't stop bleeding?
Even now, Emma still hadn't fully processed the whole story.
After the incident, the waiter at the restaurant had told her that Emilia had accidentally dropped her chopsticks when she went to the bathroom. When she bent down to pick them up, she'd bumped her nose.
And then everything spiraled out of control.
Emma regretted it so much. If she'd known it was this dangerous, she never would have insisted on taking Emilia out.
She was such a fool. Not only had she failed to say anything helpful about Emilia's condition, but she'd also dragged Liam into this mess.
Emma stole a cautious glance at Liam, whose face was still dark with anger. She said timidly, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."
Liam let out a helpless sigh. In the end, he couldn't bear to ignore her.
What he'd said was true, but he knew it had come out too harsh.
He turned to look at her, his eyes softening. His heart began to pound violently. This woman, Emma, was right within his reach. Yet, after all the lies and deception, it felt like her heart was beating from across a thousand mountains and rivers.
Even though they were so far apart, Liam did something unexpected.
His bloodshot eyes suddenly became gentle. The terrifying anger on his face slowly faded. Liam reached out his right hand and gently held her cold fingertips.
"It's okay. I'm here. She'll be fine. Trust me..."
In the end, he gave in. Despite all the doubt and resentment in his heart, his voice floated into Emma's heart from a distance.
One word: it's okay.
One word: I'm here.
Trust me.
At that moment, an inexplicable shock and overwhelming emotion surged up from the depths of Emma's heart, rolling and roaring.
Why did this man have to say such touching words at a time like this?
Emma had thought he would blame her harshly, that he would continue to mock her.
In the past, every time she made him angry, it was because she'd misunderstood him without meaning to.
Now, Emma could only feel the warmth coming from her fingertips. Liam, do you have to be so reassuring?
Do you have to be so thrilling?
As long as he held her hand, it felt like even if the sky fell, Emma wouldn't be afraid. With him, even if the sky fell, he could hold it up.
Emma squeezed his warm hand back. Her eyes were dim, but she could clearly see the tenderness and thoughtfulness on Liam's face. It was so warm and reassuring.
Christopher saw this scene clearly through the rearview mirror.
