Ethan Sullivan looked up from his seat as Sophia Sullivan toyed with her phone.
"Aren't you going to turn it off?" His fingers tapped lightly against the armrest. "Liam Winston has been hounding you like a rabid dog. Should I have someone handle him?"
Sophia tilted her phone screen toward the moonlight.
A cold smile curved her lips.
"He should be worrying about himself right now." Her fingertip hovered over the send button. "I just gave him a little gift. It's too late for him to even switch phones."
Amusement flickered in Ethan's eyes.
He admired this kind of ruthless retaliation.
The private doctor hesitated with a medical report in hand.
"Mr. Sullivan, we still can't pinpoint the cause of your neuropathic headaches." He offered a box of medication. "These will only provide temporary relief."
Ethan dismissed him with a careless wave.
Only after the doctor left did he turn back to Sophia.
"Do you have the contact for MDH Pharmaceutical Research Institute?"
Sophia swiftly sent the location.
She noted the deliberate distance he maintained.
This was what normal social boundaries looked like.
Unlike a certain obsessive who never learned respect.
Ethan saved the address with a thoughtful expression.
The miraculously obtained medication.
The perfectly timed medical resources.
The mysteries surrounding this woman intrigued him more than any medical file.
"Thanks." He pocketed his phone. "You always happen to have the solutions."
Sophia stood and smoothed her clothes.
"Just coincidence."
As she moved toward the foyer, Ethan suddenly spoke.
"Need a ride?"
"No."
The butler bowed and opened the door.
Night air rushed in, heavy with the scent of damp grass.
Sophia had just merged onto the main road when familiar headlights flashed in her rearview mirror.
Liam's Maybach swerved aggressively, cutting her off.
Chloe Evans stumbled out in her evening gown.
"Sophia!" She pounded on the car window. "Can we please talk this through?"
Sophia rolled down the window.
Her dark hair whipped wildly in the wind.
"Move."
Liam planted himself in front of her hood.
"We're settling this today." He braced both hands on the car. "You wouldn't actually hit me."
Sophia pressed the accelerator.
Tires screeched against asphalt.
"Try me."
