Sophia Sullivan's lips curled into a cold smile at the request.
Only one pill remained in her possession.
This medication already had an owner.
Even without Ethan Sullivan, she would never give it to Mrs. Winston.
All debts were settled on divorce day.
They had gone their separate ways since then.
Yet this woman dared ask for the pill now.
The audacity was staggering.
"I only have one pill left."
Sophia's voice was icy.
"And I've already promised it to someone else."
Liam Winston clearly didn't believe her.
"What an incredible coincidence."
He pressed forward aggressively.
"Sophia, if you're going to lie, at least make it convincing!"
Sophia slammed her foot on the accelerator.
"Listen carefully, Liam."
Her tone turned glacial.
"The MDH Pharmaceutical Research Institute is clearly labeled on the box."
"The Winstons aren't short of money. Fly abroad to get your medication."
"Why grovel before me?"
Liam exploded with rage.
"Do you think I haven't tried?"
He spoke through clenched teeth.
"That organization is impossible to track down."
"I've been turned away repeatedly—can't even get through the door!"
Suppressing his fury, he continued.
"Sophia, you can't just let someone suffer."
"At least help make the connection."
Sophia ended the call abruptly.
"Demanding help with such entitlement."
She scoffed.
"I owe the Winstons nothing."
"Helping you would be kindness. Not helping is my right."
"If you're incompetent, figure it out yourself."
The dial tone buzzed in Liam's ear.
His face darkened with rage.
Redialing only met with a switched-off phone.
He smashed his device against the wall.
From the adjacent room came his mother's agonized wails.
Liam hurried inside.
"Mother, Sophia refused to give us the pill."
Mrs. Winston's face contorted in pain.
"That ungrateful wretch dares abandon me in my suffering!"
She shrieked obscenities.
"All that pretended gentleness—just a wolf in sheep's clothing!"
Servants cowered in the corner.
Chloe Evans massaged Mrs. Winston's temples.
Her wrists ached from the effort.
She murmured agreement.
"Sophia's being so cruel."
"You treated her like your own daughter, Auntie."
A teacup whizzed past her face before she finished.
Shards scattered across the floor.
"Silence!"
Mrs. Winston snapped.
"My head is splitting, and you're gossiping?"
She slapped Chloe's hands away.
"That Sophia is a heartless monster!"
Rage intensified her migraine.
Mrs. Winston screamed as she sat upright.
"Liam! I don't care what it takes!"
She clawed at her son's sleeve.
"Get me that pill immediately!"
Shoving Chloe aside, she hissed.
"Your massage is worthless compared to Sophia's!"
Chloe's eyes welled with tears.
"Auntie, I'm trying my best..."
Liam immediately shielded her.
"Mother, don't take it out on Chloe."
This only enraged Mrs. Winston further.
"Useless, both of you!"
She swept all dishes from the table.
"I'm dying here, and you're making eyes at each other!"
Porcelain shattered violently.
"If I don't get that pill, no one will have peace!"
